Frederick Giles Obituary

Fred Giles Frederick Lawrence Giles died suddenly January 11, 2014 in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was born in Olympia, WA, October 20, 1944, and was raised on the family piece of waterfront land off Boston Harbor Road. He graduated from Olympia High in 1962. He spent four years in the Air Force repairing aircraft in Vietnam. He chose an independent life and traveled all over the world working on aircraft. He loved to read, make and play guitars, build fast boats and talk and laugh and hang out with his friends. He is survived by his partner, Mary McClain; sisters, Paula Lizberg and Susan Giles and their husbands; four nieces, two nephews and their mates; three grand-nieces and one grand-nephew. A memorial gathering for family and friends will take place at Burfoot County Park near Boston Harbor, Olympia, the main picnic shelter, July 23, 2014 at 5:00 pm. We ask that you celebrate his life in your hearts and memories by being kind and "paying it forward".

I worked with Fred in Fairbanks, Alaska at Everts Air. Fred had such a beautiful outlook on life and one of the most creative people I've ever known. His ability to transform wood into beautiful guitars and speed boats, as well as his livelihood working with sheet metal, you are missed. I am honored to have known you Fred.

We used to collaborate on guitar designs, talk music and share many stories. I will miss his visits to my shop but will always remember Fred. My condolences to his family. Brady Anderson
