Ivy Anderson Obituary

Ivy Lorraine Anderson 10/04/21 - 08/21/16 On Sunday, August 21, 2016, Ivy Anderson passed away at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. Ivy was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada to Lachlin and Margaret Whyte. Ivy married Robert "Bob" Lawrence Anderson on December 5, 1942. They subsequently moved to Prince Edward Island where Bob was stationed in the Royal Canadian Air Force, then on to Medicine Hat, where they opened a gift shop. After the gift shop was sold, they moved to Tacoma. Ivy was a loving and deeply devoted parent and her children's biggest fan. From flower arrangements to helping with school projects to gift wrapping a package, everything was handled with an artists' eye. Ivy was a masterful bridge player who was constantly sought out to join local clubs. Her love of children resulted in her being known at the local elementary school as the "Reading Grandma", where she spent many years volunteering. As a result, she received the Golden Acorn Award which honored her service to the education of children. Throughout Ivy's life she practiced what she preached: Kindness and compassion for everyone, and her children were the blessed beneficiaries of those life lessons. Ivy is preceded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by son, Robert L. Anderson, Jr. of Olympia; daughters, Lauri Rick of Lynden and Patricia Anderson of Snohomish; grandchildren, Jonathan (Molly) Anderson, Jared Anderson, Kayley Anderson, Emily Rick, and Faythe Rick; great-grand-daughter, Malia Anderson, daughter-in-law, Theresa Anderson and sons-in-law, Jim Rick and Don Joseph, Sr. You are invited to share your memories of Ivy at www.forevermissed.com Rememembrances may be made to Little Red Schoolhouse, PO Box 6302, Olympia, WA., 98507. A celebration of Ivy's life will be held Saturday, September 10, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at South Sound Event Center, 455 North St. S. E., Tumwater. Arrangements by Funeral Alternatives, Tumwater.

I was blessed to grow up calling Ivy "Auntie Ivy" and sharing in some of the love and joy she brought to this world. Bob and Ivy were the dearest friends of my parents and growing up, much of our social life revolved around get togethers with the Andersons. I remember clearly the excitement when oldest daughter Lauri arrived and watching my mom and the other ladies hovering around Ivy as she proudly displayed her bundle of joy. Christmases were all the more special because of the annual gathering at Bob and Ivy's. Few knew how to keep the season better than Ivy and my mom.
I lost my mom just a year and a half ago. Ivy was at her memorial and I was able to reconnect and remember the love that Ivy brought...where ever she went. A simple hug and her wonderful smile turned back time....
Funny, I always hated to be called Barbie...except by Auntie Ivy. She made it somehow special.
The Angels are celebrating and Uncle Bob is so glad you are home....RIP Dearest Auntie Ivy.
