Jamie Settle Our beloved husband, father, and son, Jamie Stephen Settle, passed away September 16, 2014 from glioblastoma. He died peacefully in the home he built and was surrounded by the family he loved so very much. Jamie was born to Catherine Slawson and Steven Settle in Olympia, on October 5, 1975. Jamie attended Griffin School and graduated from Capital High School in 1994. Until the onset of his illness, he was pursuing a Certificate of Electrical Engineering Technician at Centralia Community College. Jamie grew up in Olympia near Totten lnlet and loved the Puget Sound. He was employed for 16 years by Manke Lumber Company which afforded him the opportunity to work on the waterfront, rafting logs and operating heavy equipment. He was proud of his work and respected the men he worked with. Thank you to Manke Lumber Company for their caring concern during these last difficult months. At Capital High School Jamie excelled on the football field. He loved the hard work and the deep friendships forged there. The ethics and credos instilled by Coach Wayne Sortun and his staff carried with Jamie into his adulthood. A great and positive influence in Jamie's life was Art Tozier. As a young boy, Jamie spent many summers helping with the cows and putting up hay on Artie's farm. Jamie felt he "became a man" the day he was strong enough to buck a bale of hay onto the hay wagon. Deep and heartfelt thanks to Artie. Jamie loved you like a father. After high school, Jamie met the girl who was perfect for him, Nikki LeHew. They were married on June 23, 2007. Theirs was a true love match. Through old fashioned hard work and determination they bought some land and together, always together, they built their home. To this they added two beautiful children, Nora and Cole. His greatest pleasure was spent with his family, forging trails, working hard outside then coming in to a home cooked meal. Jamie was a strong, gentle man with a huge capacity for love. He held his friends very dear. To quote one friend, "if you told Jamie you were cold, he would cut down a tree and build a fire to warm you." Many thanks to all Jamie's friends who showed up to 'build him a fire' during these past 18 months. Jamie is survived by his wife, Nikki Settle; children, Nora Anne and Cole Arthur; mother, Catherine Slawson (Olympia); father, Steve Settle (Shelton); half-sister Reagan Sawyer (Settle). Leavenworth, KS; grandmothers Anne, Slawson-Vester (Olympia), Wanda Settle (Shelton), Lillian Settle (Shelton); numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and countless friends.
