Leslie Mikolon-Mercier Obituary

Leslie Mikolon-Mercier
February 14, 1957 - September 17, 2022
Olympia, Washington - Leslie died peacefully in her sleep while resting in her garden.
She is survived by her husband Mark, daughter Jenna, sons Jesse and Samuel, grandchildren Dylan, Callie, Luke, Alex, Lilah, Emma and Eve, brothers Steven and Brian, sisters JoEllen and Anna, her mother Charlene and her father Joseph. She is also survived by a great number of fast friends.
Leslie was born in Modoc, raised in San Anselmo, later living in Madison, Tallahassee and Olympia. She was a woman of many talents and ambitions, once owner and operator of her own landscaping business and a tireless gardener. She was a gifted quilter and passed her talent on to Samuel. She graduated early from Sir Francis Drake High School and earned a BA at The Evergreen State College in 2004, the first in her family to earn a college degree.
Leslie was an exceptional woman, with a rare grace. She was a marvelous cook and performed miracles in the kitchen. Her cheesecake was peerless. She trained her family to continue her cooking traditions and recipes.
Her focus was always on caring for others. She had great joy working as an intern in the civil rights unit at Labor and Industries, helping to right the wrongs done to injured workers mostly in the Latino community.
She was always optimistic. Animals trusted her, and came to her readily for care when frightened or injured.
Special thanks is given for the care received from Drs Paturi, Singha and Timms, Nurse Diana, Sandra Pedersen, and Julie Hertl.
There are no services planned. A celebration of her life will follow at a later date, but we celebrate her every day. In lieu of flowers or donations, Leslie wishes to be remembered as you tend your gardens, care for the animals, and show kindness to one another.

What a lovely tribute. I will miss her. She was such a beautiful soul. I always looked forward to seeing Leslie and Mark each week at TJs. I'll never forget hearing about the rat that destroyed the wiring of one of your cars (and returned to do more damage, if I remember correctly).

I only knew her from my job at Trader Joe's. From my weekly interactions, I learned of her kindness and warmth as a person. It was always a treat to see her and Mark come in on the weekends. Thank you for sharing your smiles over the years.

Oh Leslie, how I will miss you. I remember the first time we met. It was at your home and you were so warm and gracious, I felt welcomed immediately. That was consistent every time I visited. A perfect hostess with a taste for both elegance and fun.

At that first dinner you created a centerpiece from blossoming quince branches and it is forever a picture in my memory - an example of how to be both simple and grand at once.

You and Mark created a home that I was always thrilled to be invited into. You fought valiantly and I´m so pleased to have called you friend.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I never got to really know Leslie all that well. The most time I got to spend with her was the Mercier Family trip to Montana. Keep your good memories close to your heart. I hope you and your family find peace and healing Mark.

Blessings Light Love...always love. My condolences to Mark, Sam and EACH one of Leslie's family and friends. I knew Mark first. He actually introduced me to Leslie's before she & I met in person. The way he spoke of and about wife warmed my heart. When Leslie & I met the very first time it was an ((Arms Around)) meet. Our connection was immediate, natural and caring. Leslie was grace; she truly was. She has taught me some grace in the past two plus years. Grateful. Brave, Beautiful, Loving and Joyful was Leslie. For many years I've watched as Mark & Leslie lived their love, lived it. The support & care even more so in recent times. Living & loving and appreciative of special moments. I shall always thank my Dear Friend, Mark, for bringing another precious friend to me, for gifting me the lovely Leslie. My heart is holding yours. - Denise

I was lucky enough to get to meet her years ago in Florida when she was on vacation. I wish I had gotten to know her better. Every thought is with Mark and the family.
