Margaret Loftus Obituary

Margaret Nicole Loftus
February 2, 1960 - July 13, 2023
Olympia, Washington - On Thursday, July 13, 2023, Margaret Nicole "Niki" Loftus, the kindest, most generous and humble soul, moved on to her next journey. She was surrounded by those who loved her. It is our sincerest hope that she is enjoying time with those who went before: her father William John Mertena, Sr. and his adored wife Betty Ruth Estes, her mother, Eva Jo Ward Mertena, and her husband Samual Norman Loftus.
Niki loved her family fiercely and was never more proud of anything in her life than her children; Kelsey Alexandra (Scott Bowen) and Thomas Alexander Loftus were the center of her world.
Niki was the most genuine person you could ever know. She loved the simple things in life: holiday gatherings with family, the color green, frogs, and fireworks. She completed her Associate's Degree at Centralia Community College and was a member of the Washington State Printers working as a Journeyman. Niki also volunteered as a creator at the Christmas Forest. She loved the creative process of decorating a unique tree and was proud to support her community through her artistic talent.
She found great joy in the kitchen and was an amazing cook. Many friends and family gathered at her home for epic feasts that included Southern favorites like ham loaf, black-eyed peas and gumbo. Niki was an extraordinary artist and loved kayaking, clam digging, and beach combing for rocks and treasures that she collected over her travels. She was a true blue blood Mariner's fan. Nothing brought her more joy than sharing her love of the game with her friends and family. Niki never met a stranger, but if you were lucky, you were one of the many friends she considered family.
She will be desperately missed by her sisters: Julia (Jay) Towne, Eva Ann Mertena, Rhea (Dave) McVey and her brother William John Mertena, Jr., all of whom considered her their treasure. Also by her cherished nieces and nephews: Peter (Angie) Barnhill, Cecelia (Chris) Mikles, Hannah (Todd) Szekely, Patrick, Cora (Nate Whitfield) and Cullen McVey, all of whom will carry her in their hearts forever.
Her family plans to honor her memory in Seabrook, Washington on Sunday, August 13, 2023. If you are a friend or family member, please join us in one of her favorite places; 21 Seabrook Ave. Pacific Beach, WA 98571 from 2:00 - 4:30 PM to celebrate her life with a casual picnic gathering.
Donations can be made in Niki's memory to Thurston County Food Bank
or Heifer International. Niki especially loved the idea of the gift of a life sustaining goat in her honor.

Where brave souls rest in eternal light,
A Viking spirit takes its flight.
Niki Loftus, a beacon shining bright,
Sister true, with bonds unbroken,
Through storm and strife, love was spoken,
In battles faced, your courage awoken,
In memories cherished, hearts remain open,
Aunt of joy, a guiding hand,
Through rugged paths, you´d understand,
In your presence, Laughter would expand,
Now in the sky, a guiding star to land,
Mother´s Love, fierce and tender,
A flame that nothing could render,
In your embrace, hearts would surrender,
Now in the sky, a radiant ember,
Friends so loyal, a steady shore,
In times of need, your support did pour,
Through life´s tapestry, you wove and more,
Now in the sky, forever to explore,
Wife beloved, a partner true,
Through all life´s trials, side by side with you,
In love´s embrace, your bond grew,
Now in the sky, your love´s renewed,
With torches raised and ships adorned,
Niki Loftus, to you we´re sworn,
To honor your life, forever adorned,
With each roaring flame, we send you on,
To lands unknown and battles won,
Rest now, dear Niki, under the northern sun.

You will be missed, I grew up with Niki and the rest of the Family. I lost touch with the Family and was saddened to hear this news. I will miss your always smiling face and the goodness of your heart.

My heart is heavy learning of the passing of Niki. As with 9tyers who have commented Niki was a part of my younger years in school. Always smiling, always nice to me and saying hi. My sincere heart felt condolences to her family and friends.
