Steven Haase Obituary

Steven Alec Haase Steven was born June 18, 1970 to Alan and Gaye (Sandars) Haase in Redwood City, CA. He passed doing what he loved, flying his grasshopper airplane, September 16, 2014 at 44 years old. He leaves behind his beloved wife and son, Susanne Margret Brendel of Wuerzburg, Germany (married July 19, 1991, Horsens, Denmark), and Alec Thomas Haase (December 13, 2006 Landstuhl, Germany). He is survived by his parents, brother, Butch Haase (wife Joyce), niece Evelyn Haase, two brothers-in-law and their wives and three children, many cousins, aunts, and a lovely mother-in-law, Margret Brendel. He will be sorely missed by so very many. He was raised in Olympia, WA, always full of life and mischief at Deep Lake Resort. He would look out for those in a bad situation, was full of mischievous adventure and always had a twinkle in his eye. He worked hard and wanted to join the army and fly since he was 16. He enjoyed his time in the Boy Scouts. He was very principled in doing what was right. CW4 Steven Alec Haase (retired September 1, 2014), entered military service on September 26, 1987 as an Aeroscout Observer. In 1995 he applied for and was selected for Army Warrant Officer flight training. During his 26 years of military service, he has proudly served as an enlisted soldier, non-commissioned Officer, and Warrant Officer. He has served in various locations, including: Fort Rucker, Alabama; Fort Hood, Texas; and overseas assignments in Germany, Korea, Turkey, Cyprus, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. In addition, he served multiple combat tours in support of operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. CW4 Haase has served as an OH-58D pilot in command, standardization instructor pilot and instrument light examiner, C-12 and RC-12 pilot in command, standardization instructor pilot, instrument flight examiner and maintenance test pilot as well as tactical operations officer and FAA airspace systems inspection pilot. He stated the highlight of his career was to serve with great Americans worldwide. His service will be held October 9, 2014, at 4:00 p.m., in the Fort Rucker, Alabama Main Post Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alec T. Haase College Fund (Army Aviation Federal Credit Union, Routing #262183749, Account #739850) or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Gaye, Alan and Butch, My prayers are with you and your family. I was saddened to see the announcement. Working at the resort and babysitting (no sitting involved with those 2 boys!) is a great memory of mine. Love you all.

I had the opportunity to meet Steven a few times while visiting his parents at the resort and to talk with him a few times on the phone. He always seemed to be a very kind and mellow person. I also was impressed that he would call his parents almost daily. This is a true tragedy, and is hard for me to wrap my brain around it. My heart goes out to Gaye and Alan, Butch and his family and to Susan and Alec, and extended family and friends. You all are constantly in my thoughts. Diane Taylor - Tenino Wa.

Alan, Gaye & Butch,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Steven. Some of my best childhood memories are of growing up at Deep Lake with Butch and Steven! I can still picture his smile and laugh. He may have had his mischievous moments as a kid, but he turned out to be an amazing man! You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
