Susan Randall Obituary

Susan Lorrayne (Parish) Randall
December 25, 1946 - February 26, 2023
Olympia, Washington - SUSAN LORRAYNE (Parish) RANDALL
A devoted wife, loving mother, dear sister, beloved teacher, and loyal friend to many, left us all on February 26, 2023 after living bravely with Parkinson's Disease for many years.
Susan was born in Tacoma on 12/25/46, forever to her chagrin, having to share this day with Christmas. She grew up in Gig Harbor, graduated from Peninsula High School in 1965 and Western Washington State College in 1969. She later earned a Master's Degree at the University of Portland. Susan married her high school sweetheart, Norm, in 1969, and raised four children in Oakville, Washington. Susan was a creative and energetic mother, kindergarten teacher, 4-H leader, artist, gardener, antique collector, and adventurous world traveler with her husband and children. In retirement, Sue and Norm lived in a small village in France for part of each year while also exploring Europe. Susan and Norm last resided in Olympia, Washington. Wherever she lived, Susan could make any house a most beautiful, welcoming and comfortable home. But mostly, Susan was known for her generous heart, kind spirit and inability to turn away any creature; human, four-footed, or winged and, included amongst many cats, dogs, birds and farmyard animals, the infamous Muscovy Duck.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Phyllis Parish, daughter, Erin, and infant son, Ross. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Norm Randall, daughter Lee (Dan Eakins) and sons Jesse (Kassie) and Bryan, grandsons Tamlyn and Lane Eakins, and sisters Marcia Parish (Elaine DuCharme) and Patsy Parish Bryan (Paul).
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship in Susan's name will be available in the future for remembrances.

Susan was my children's kindergarden teacher at Oakville Elementary School in 1991-92. She exuded kindness in everything she did. I could not have asked for a better teacher for my children. Her sense of humor made her so likeable as a person and her smile made everyone feel good.
I've since gone into public education and am getting ready to retire this June. This morning, while having my coffee and reflecting on my career and pending retirement, I thought fondly of Susan. I live nearby, (in Elma) and thought I would look her up and plan a meeting to get together and chat. I wanted to let her know what a positive role model she had been for both of my children and myself! I knew she would have appreciated the compliments and hearing of the positive enfluence she has had in both young and old alike.
I am sorry to hear of Susan's passing. It's never to late to tell someone how much you appreciate them!

Our hearts are filled with all the fun times we had hiking, kayaking, back-packing, picnics, Tugboat Annie's dinners, with this truly wonderful, funny, and caring friend and classmate. Attached are just 3 of our many fond memories of adventures with the Randall's (Susan gathering campfire wood at ShiShi Beach in 2007, the 4 of us posing on giant driftwood at Damon Point State Park in 2015, and Norm & Sue at their home in Olympia 2014.
