Thomas Eagan Obituary

1940 - 2001Thomas Frank Eagan, better known as "Big Tom", was born September 10, 1940, in Seattle, Wash. His parents were Mildred Catherine Eagan and Russell Leroy Eagan. He died on July 7, 2001 in Ferndale, Wash.In his early years Tom lived in Seattle and Tacoma. The family moved to Olympia in 1946. He attended St. Michael's Catholic School and Olympia High School.He worked in the family drive inns and later as a chef for the Jacaranda and Tyee restaurants. In 1966 Tom started what became the Big Tom Drive Inn in Tumwater, on the corner of Cleveland and Custer Way. Tom operated the Tumwater Big Tom continuously for 35 years until July 2000, when he sold the business and retired.Tom's heart was as big as his body, he was always looking for ways to be of service and for ways to help people. He carried tools and supplies in his vehicle to help people he would find in need of help along the roads and highways. He will truly be missed by those who knew him.Tom is survived by his sons, Tom Eagan and Tim and Kristi Eagan and his granddaughters Kayla and Kelsey of Olympia; his brothers, James Eagan of Olympia and Robert Eagan of Whidbey Island; his aunt Lois Triggs of Seattle; also numerous nieces and nephews.Memorial services for Tom will be held July 30, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Living Water, 1615 Chambers St. SE, Olympia, WA 98501. A Celebration of Life will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
