Eugene Dixon Obituary

MUNSON - Eugene "Geno" Dixon, 84, passed away at his residence on Feb. 8, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born Jan. 22, 1941, he was the son of William and Alberta (Parks) Dixon of Philipsburg.

Geno retired from West Branch Area High School where he taught History, Urban Problems, Geography and Drivers Education.

On Aug. 15, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Georganne (Swartz) Dixon.

Geno was an avid fisherman, hunter and a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penn State Nittany Lions but most importantly, he loved his wife and all his kids. He took great pride in his career and enjoyed all his students and athletes. He graduated from the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School in 1959. He was the Pennsylvania State Wrestling Champion during his senior year. He graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in education where he won two wrestling PSAC titles and a NAIA National Championship at 157 lbs. in 1961. He also received All-State and All-American honorable mention honors. He started and coached the West Branch wrestling program in 1964, which is still a very notable program today. He also was a part of the baseball and football programs for many years. Geno was inducted into both the Centre and Clearfield County Hall of Fame.

Geno is survived by his wife, Georganne; a son, Gregory Allen (Patrica) Dixon; daughters, Shelley Lynn (Todd) Walstrom, Kelly Leah (Calvin) Kephart, all of Munson; a brother, Robert (Carol) Dixon of Frenchville; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dixon, of Morrisdale.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Lyndz (Teddy) Little, Brooke (Brad) Rocco, Logan (Alex Gildea) Walstrom, McKendz Kephart, Keri Miller, Brian (Kassi) Dixon, Jay Ames-Dixon, Erik Ames-Dixon and Brandon Bainey; great grandchildren, Olivia Dixon, Mariah Dixon, Jackson Hoover, Tucker Ames-Dixon, Lincoln Little, Layne Little and Colson Walstrom.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James (Jim) Dixon; sister and brother-in-law Janet (Larry) Richner; and grandson, Todd Ames-Dixon.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Philipsburg, PA on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of service. Elder Kate Sillman will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to the Geno Dixon Scholarship Memorial Fund established at the County National Bank, Presqueisle Street, Philipsburg, in Coach Geno Dixon's memory.

Geno was a lifelong teacher, mentor, friend, coach and an inspiration to all and anyone who knew him. He touched the lot of so many and will forever hold a special place in my and my husband Mike's heart. He was Mike's baseball coach and they shared a special bond and had a great team. RIP Geno. Much love to the family.

He was literally one of the best history teachers I've ever seen! He made it the best way to learn it! If other teachers taught history like he did. You'd have a lot of very intelligent people in this world when it comes to history. Will be sadly missed!

My heart breaks for my Aunt Georganne and the family. I know how important Uncle Geno was to everyone. `Art´ as my Dad, Geno's brother Jim, called him was strong, kind, extremely funny and very talented. He prioritized his wife and family. He was generous and a joy to be around. He will be greatly missed. I´m convinced that he´s on the best fishing trip of his life with my Dad. Enjoying the laughs and memories and awaiting the time when he can be with his family and love of his life, Georganne, again.

Kelly. I love you "40-90-10"

Mister Dixon was my head wrestling coach for West Branch Area High School in 1980. He taught excellence, strength, courage and respect. How to gracefully win and lose. Most importantly he was a great teacher of kindness. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched throughout his life. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his entire family and friends. May God Bless all of you.

Mr. Dixon was one of my favorite teachers. I had him for geography in 7th grade. He always loved to joke around with us, and he always had a smile at his door to greet us. He will always be loved and remembered. Stacy (Seprish) Ricciotti
