JOHN MCCRACKEN Obituary

CURWENSVILLE - John Melvin McCracken, 72, of Curwensville, died at home in the arms of the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023.

He was born on May 13, 1951 in Clearfield, a son of the late John Lee and Josephine Rachel (Hockenberry) McCracken.

John was employed as a carpet installer throughout Clearfield County. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family, especially turkey dinners on Thanksgiving. It was comforting that he had died at home surrounded by his loving family. He loved going to church at The Main Event Church in Ramey.

He married his high school sweetheart, Gail Bunnell, and they spent 53 years together.

He was a member of Clearfield County Fair and Park Board, the Elk Hose Co., the Clearfield Fire Department, and the Free and Accepted Masons Noble Lodge 480 of Curwensville.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Ann (Bunnell) McCracken of Curwensville; two children, Jason John McCracken of Curwensville, and Beth Ann Shaffer and husband Chris of Clearfield; two grandchildren, Alaina Shaffer and boyfriend Kyler Kephart of Clearfield; and Richie Shaffer and girlfriend Hayley Moore of Clearfield; two sisters, Sharon Stiles and husband James of Croft, and JoAnn Quade and husband Denny of Lecontes Mills; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Pam Smeal and husband John of Bainbridge, and Linda Manhart and husband Craig of Brockway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elma McCracken Rougeux; a brother, David McCracken; his father-in-law, John Edward Bunnell; and his mother-in-law, Lucille Nann Flegal Bunnell.

At John's request, there will be no public viewing or service.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Main Event Church, 426 Washington Ave., Tyrone, PA 16686.
