Helen Arendt Obituary

Mrs. Helen L. (Smith) Arendt, 90, of 434 West Fourth Street, Waynesboro, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Quincy Village.
Born July 8, 1926 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late David W. and M. Ethel (Powell) Smith. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
She and her husband, the late Francis B. "Frank" Arendt, were married December 21, 1946 in the former E.U.B Church presently Faith United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. They moved to the present residence on October 15, 2000. Mr. Arendt died on April 16, 2009.
Mrs. Arendt worked as a waitress at the Anthony Wayne Hotel, Waynesboro. She and her husband later purchased the John Wallace Kitchen, Waynesboro and operated it from 1972 until 1976. Prior to her retirement in 1987, she worked at Eichholz Flowers, Waynesboro.
She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, where she was a member of the Cheerful Givers Sunday School class, which later merged with the Married Couples Sunday School class, served on the kitchen committee with her husband for many years, and served on the Administrative Board and Trustees for 6 years. She and her husband cooked for the Lockings Gun Club in McConnellsburg for 17 years and she was a member of the former Mount Vernon Chapter #398 Order of the Eastern Star, Waynesboro.
Mrs. Arendt enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, reading, bowling, and golfing.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna A. (husband Anthony) Haugh, Cathy A. (husband Stanley) Bumbaugh, both of Waynesboro, two sons, Kenneth A. (wife Melanie) Arendt of Waynesboro, Jeffrey L. (wife Lisa) Arendt of Frederick, MD; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Harbaugh of Waynesboro; one brother, Vernon A. Smith of Silver City, NM; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer D. Arendt-Ott who died on August 9, 1990.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 18, 2016 in Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac Street, Waynesboro, with Pastor Mark Shover officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Friday afternoon, in the church.

Amos and I will truly miss Helen. She was one of the warmest ladies we had ever met. I will always remember the tea parties on Mondays at Donna's home. I became a part of her family. I loved her very much. Our condolences to Helen's family, and you are in our thoughts and prayers
