Julia Duffield Obituary

Julia B. Duffield, 80, of Greencastle, PA died peacefully at Ravenwood Nursing Center, Hagerstown, MD on Sunday, March 6, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
Born December 20, 1935, in Hagerstown, MD, Julia was the daughter of the late G. Robert DeLauder and Loretta (Spickler) DeLauder, and the step-daughter of Madeline (Fiery) DeLauder.
Julia was the beloved wife and partner of Cedric A. Duffield, who she met at Hagerstown High School. She graduated in 1953 and married Cedric on May 29, 1955. They celebrated 60 years of marriage last May with a special family gathering.
Julia was a long-time member of Mercersburg Presbyterian Church. She was also involved with the restoration and upkeep of Robert Kennedy Memorial Presbyterian Church in Welsh Run.
Together with Cedric, Julia was the owner of Greencastle Metal Works, which they operated for 25 years. After retiring in 1990, Julia was able to spend more time doing the things she loved: gardening, trips to Florida, cooking, lunch with old classmates, shopping, and most importantly spending time with her family. Her favorite thing was gathering her family together for holiday dinners and summer picnics. She always planned her menus and executed them deliciously. She loved being at her Welsh Run farmhouse.
Julia is survived by her husband, Cedric Duffield, her son Mike Duffield and his wife, Sue, of Williamsport and a daughter, Kim De Lany and her husband, Patrick, of York.
Julia also has five loving grandchildren: Chris Duffield and his wife, Mikala, Erin (Duffield) Kroh, Ashley (Duffield) Klenzing, Bridget De Lany and Griffin De Lany.
Also very dear to her were her great grandchildren Camden Klenzing, Blake Klenzing, Raylan Duffield and another unborn great grandchild Julia was hoping so much to meet.
Julia is also survived by her sisters, Mary Jane (DeLauder) Shank, of Hagerstown and Margaret (DeLauder) Kershner, of Greencastle.
Arrangements are being handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home at 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, March 9, at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, March 10 at 11:00 AM at the Mercersburg Presbyterian Church at 34 W. Seminary St. Mercersburg, PA. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg. Online condolences to the family may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.

My fondest memories of Julia are of her cooking and sharing recipes. I have a whole section of her offerings in my loose leaf notebook.
And then there's her sense of humor. And the last time Anne, Kathy, Ginny and I visited and we made a tour of the consignment shops and the kitchen supply store.
The farm, riding with Julia and Cedric as we visited Kennedy church in Welsh Run. As I think of our visits, wonderful memories just pour out. Cedric, our contacts were few but full. I hope never to forget them.
I didn't learn of Julia's death until September 17th. I'm so sorry, Cedric. There must be a huge void in your life. May your many memories and your faith uphold you.
Love, Lynn Calcagni
