Andrew John Derflinger passed away in Vacaville on Dec. 29, at the age of 70 from a sudden illness. Andrew, or Andy as he is affectionately known, was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Derflinger. Andy had a distinguished military career serving in the Navy on the USS Forrestal (when it blew up) he cruised the world and did a tour in Vietnam. He was commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and commander of the Honor Guard for the National Cemetery in Dixon. Throughout Andy's life he had passion to serve and protect. For 15 years, Andy was a reserve Deputy Sheriff for Solano County and a reserve for the Alameda County Search and Rescue Dive Team, an EMT and also served in the Vacaville Fire Protection District. I knew Andy here in Vacaville since 1983. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Vacaville Fire District and later a Reserve Deputy for the Solano County Sheriff's office. He and his family all were contributors to community related activities. God has a plan but in my opinion Andy will be missed but never forgotten. RIP Andy!
