Angelo Vieira Obituary

Oct. 2, 1929 - April 28, 2015

On the morning of April 28, Angelo passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Vacaville after a short illness. Angelo was 85 years old.

Angelo was born in Heber, Calif on Oct. 2, 1929. He was the fourth of seven children to Jessie Marie and John Avila Vieira.

At an early age, Angelo and his family moved to Escalon, Calif. He attended local schools there and worked on several ranches. At Escalon High School Angelo was three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track.

While in high school, Angelo met the love of his life, Josie Linch. She was one year behind Angelo in school. Upon his graduation, he joined the Navy. One year later, on a weekend liberty, he took the Greyhound Bus to Modesto to meet Josie at the depot. They continued to Reno and were married on June 4, 1949.

Shortly after Angelo's discharge from the Navy, he went to work for the local newspaper in Oakdale, "The Oakdale Leader".

In June of 1951, a friend of Angelo left Oakdale and went to work for the Vacaville Reporter. His friend called him right away, advising him that his boss at the Reporter was paying top dollar for pressmen. Angelo came to Vacaville and met the boss, John Rico, and was hired on the spot. Angelo had lifelong friendships with John, Richard and Jimmy Rico.

Angelo enjoyed his 25-year employment with the Reporter before opening his own business, Ulatis Creek Printing, on East Main Street.

He retired from the business 20 years later, after nearly 50 years in the printing business.

Angelo was involved in the Vacaville community, as Past President of the Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Rotary Club of Vacaville, and his favorite post, the five year President of the Vacaville Little League. Angelo was instrumental in building the Little League fields at Keating Park.

Angelo was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Vieira.

Angelo is survived by his wife of 66 years, Josie; his sons, Michael Vieira (Diane) and Richard Vieira (Michelle) and daughters, Grace McClure (Norman) and Teresa Morrill (Norman). Angelo is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held May 12, at 10 a.m., in St Mary's Church, 350 Stinson Ave., Vacaville.

Internment will be in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to "St. Mary's Church Building Fund" in Angelo's name.
