Barbara Fielding Obituary

Jan. 6, 1949 - Sept. 11, 2013
Barbara Jacobs Fielding, 64, a longtime resident of Solano County, died Wednesday, Sept.11, at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville.
The youngest of four children, Barbara was born on Jan. 6, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana to Claude and Margaret Jacobs.
In 1970 she graduated from South Bend's Holy Cross School of Nursing and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, stationed at Fort Gordon, GA. The following year she married Jim Fielding, an Air Force Pilot, received an interservice transfer and joined her husband in 1972 at Beale AFB, Calif.
Following what she considered by far her greatest accomplishment, the birth of triplets in 1976, Barbara became a member of the Air Force Reserve at Travis AFB, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1995.
She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Sonoma State University in 1985, and worked as an occupational health nurse For Chevron, retiring in 2000.
Barbara enjoyed gardening, needlework, reading, travel and theater. She cared deeply, made friends readily and always saw the best in everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Jacobs and sister, Wanda White.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jim; her sister, Rosemarie Wells; her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Brian Sliger; her son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Jody Fielding; her son, Tom Fielding and granddaughters, Alexandria Fielding and Alyssa Sliger.
A committal service with Full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m., at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon.
To honor Barbara's memory, and because floral displays at the National Cemetery are limited, contributions to The Alzheimer's Society (Alz.org) are preferred.

Jim,

My heartfelt sympathies. 40+ years of marriage is a long time to be with Barbara and I am very sad for your loss. I hope you have great support nearby. You have always been a true friend and I have always enjoyed knowing you. I hope that you will not hesitate to call if you are in town.
we would love to have you stop by should you be in Seattle.
we could probably get Jimmy Gault to come over as well. Take care Jim.

I'm so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. I worked with her in the old ICU when it was Intercommunity in the early '80s. I will always remember her talking so lovingly and happy to have triplets. The angels in heaven must have needed a nurse. My condolences to all the family and friends.
