Joan E. Scalabrino, 66, passed away on Feb. 28 after her courageous battle with kidney cancer. She was surrounded by family and close friends.
Joni was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Retiring early from Pacific Bell, she was happiest while spending time with her family and seven grandchildren. She enjoyed playing board games and cooking with her grandchildren. She loved shopping excursions with friends, gardening and the annual Scalabrino family trips to the beach. Joni leaves her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved. She will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Joni was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marjorie Deremer.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Frank J. Scalabrino; son, Jeff Scalabrino (Tammy); daughter, Cindy Sacca (Mike); grandchildren, Randy, Scott, Candice, Brandy, Hayden, McKenna and Carson; and sister, Pat Challburg (Bob).
The Scalabrinos would like to thank friends and family for all of their love and support during these difficult times.
A Celebration of Joni's Life was held Friday, March 4, at Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville.

I will never forget Joanie. We had some fun and wonderful memories when we were teenagers. Sleepovers, talking about boys, school, growing up. She was always sweet and fun

Joni and I met in high school when her family moved to Fairfield from the San Mateo area. She fit in quickly with her adorable smile, fun-loving nature, and willingness to be a good friend. I remember many slumber parties and I remember our boyfriends and the usual teenage heartaches. After high school we drifted apart when I moved to Los Angeles, but I will always remember her beauty, inside and out. When I attended her memorial service, it was no surprise to me that there were so many who loved her so much and will deeply miss her. She was a loving presence to her family and an admirable role model to everyone who knew her. My thoughts are with Frank and her large family. ~ Pamela Adams Winston, Sonoma, California

Joni & I worked together for a number of years at Pac Bell. She and I shared the same break time; she often told family stories that exemplified her love and devotion. At her retirement party from Pac Bell, two of her coworkers carried out a navy blue sofa that Joanie sat on during her breaks. It was a complete surprise to her; it brought laughter to the event and both a blush and smile to Joni's face. May God Bless.

Joni was a part of our 'telephone family'. I have many happy memories of when she helped out in the Vacaville office. Seldom did one ever see her without shining eyes and a beautiful smile.
My heart felt condolences to her family and many friends
