Joseph Walters Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Walters, 71 of Vacaville, passed surrounded by loved ones on Friday, Oct. 31, after a brief but courageous battle of lung cancer.

Joe was born in Sacramento, on Oct. 9, 1943. He graduated from Vacaville High School in the class of 1961. Upon completion of high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy. During his service in the Navy, Joe was stationed on the U.S.S Gurke in the Vietnam War. After his Navy service Joe began his 40 year career with PG&E. He retired in 2005, and has since enjoyed camping, fishing, following multiple sports, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Joe is survived by his beautiful wife of 48 years, Sharon; daughter, Ashley Edwards; son-in-law, Joe Edwards; mother, Rose Walters-Pearse; sister, Kathleen Ford; brothers, Michael and Tim Walters, and grandsons, Savastian and Madden.

He is preceded in death by his father, Snooky; sister, Patsy; brother-in- law, John Ford, and step-father, Charles Pearse.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Vacaville Moose Lodge, 6585 Gibson Canyon Road, Vacaville, 95688. The family requests guests dress casual in their favorite sport's team apparel.

A private internment at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the non-profit organization www.freetobreathe.org, an organization that focuses on lung cancer awareness and patient resources.

Me and my mom are so sorry to hear about your husband Joe's death. I'm sorry we didn't know him. He would have liked us. I hope Ashley and the 2 boys are doing much better. Ashley is my best friend now. Wherever Joe is, he'll always be with us in our hearts forever.
