Ritsue Dorothy Yanuska, 88, of Vacaville, passed away after a long illness in Vacaville on April 7, 2008.
She was born January 15, 1920, Papaikou, Hawaii to Nobuichi Nitta and Masako Ota. Ritsue was a resident of Vacaville for the past 14 years and formerly lived on the Monterey Peninsula for over 36 years.
Ritsue met and married Thomas S. Yanuska in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was stationed during World War II.
Ritsue was an avid gardener, knitter and pottery maker. She was an enthusiastic collector. She maintained an extensive collection of antique wooden Japanese dolls. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Ritsue is survived by her husband of 65 years, Thomas S. Yanuska; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Henry
Marquez of New York, N.Y.; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Sr. and Arlene Yanuska of Winnipeg, Canada, Joseph
A. and JoAnn Yanuska of Vacaville; son, Michael T. Yanuska of Vacaville; stepsisters, Helen Hongo and Edith Nishimoto of Honolulu, Hawaii; stepbrother, Joseph Nishimoto of Honolulu, Hawaii; 6 grandchildren, Thomas Jr. and Lori Yanuska of Winnipeg, Canada, Timothy Yanuska of Cupertino, Joseph Yanuska II of San Mateo, Jayme Yanuska of Vacaville, and Miles H. Marquez of New York, N.Y.; 6 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Brandon, Chelsea and Taylor Desmarais all of Winnipeg, Canada, Ameryn Joi and Josiah Yanuska of Vacaville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nobuichi Nitta and mother, Masako Ota; and stepbrother, Harry Nishimoto.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday April 17, 10 a.m., at McCune Garden Chapel with burial to follow at 11:30 a.m., at Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery. Father Michael McFadden will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkinson's Association of the Sacramento Valley, 900 Fulton Ave., Ste. 100-5, Sacramento, Calif., 95825-4502.

Tom, I won't be able to attend the service, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. I met your wife once at a crossing guard meeting at the Cultural Center. I know that you will deeply miss her presence even though you know that she is with God.
