Ronald Rex Obituary

Sept. 5, 1936 - Feb. 25, 2016

Surrounded by his loving family, Ron Rex went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 25. Welcoming him to heaven are his mother, Marie; father, Lloyd, and wife of over 51 years, Judith Marie.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hamilton; son in law, James Hamilton, and his grandchildren, Tristan and Katrina. He will be dearly missed by his brother, Dick Rex; brother in law, Butch Miller; sisters in law, Peggy Miller and Emily Miller, and nieces, Gina Luczak and Wendy Mielke, Wendy's husband, Chris Mielke, and Brooke Sampson, and Brooke's husband, Mark Sampson, and his nephewm Chad Miller, and Chad's wife, Nichole Miller as well as his grandnieces, Jamie, Katie, Sarah, Emily, and Ava, and grandnephews, Logan and Miller.

Ron started working as a teenager, and, among other positions held, was a truck driver for Brink's Inc., until his retirement in 1989 due to ill health. He drove various trucks including 18-wheelers "over the road" hauling gold bars to the mints across the nation. He'd been in every state except for Hawaii and Alaska until 2006 when he went to Kauai, Hawaii, with his wife and family for the first time. He was born in Chicago, IL and then moved to Vacaville in 1979.

Ron loved to camp, fish and enjoyed working in his yard. He loved to watch bowling, and almost became a pro-bowler at the age of 19. He always regretted not being able to have served his country in the military. This was due to health reasons, sustained after he was hit by a car at the age of two and told at that time that he'd never be able to walk again. He has been active in the community working as a delivery driver for the Solano Food Bank - where he received the award of "Outstanding Senior" in 2002. He also was a long standing member of the Vacaville Moose Lodge, and received his "Pilgrim Degree of Merit" in May of 2004. Ron also loved to play cards and pool. He loved and cherished his family, and looked forward to any chance he had to be with his grandchildren - they were the "apple of his eye".

Viewing for Ron Rex will be held on Wednesday, March 2, at Oakmont Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m., (first hour for family) - located at 180 E Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville. Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Vacaville on Thursday March 3, at 10 a.m., with cemetery service afterward.
