Sue Leung Obituary

March 29, 1947 - June 10, 2011

Sue Jane Leung, 64, passed away peacefully at home in Vacaville with her family at her side on Friday, June 10, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on March 29, 1947, to Wing Yee Tse and Sook Wan Seto in China.

In 1956, her family moved to Hong Kong in order to flee the Communist rule. She then immigrated to the United States in 1963. During high school, she befriended a new student who later introduced her future husband, James, her friend's brother. She graduated from Vacaville High School in 1968. In 1969, she graduated from Heald Business College with a certificate in bookkeeping and then began her career in banking in San Francisco at the Bank of Montreal.

She married James in San Francisco on July 3, 1971, and moved back to Vacaville where she worked for Wells Fargo Bank while James completed his master's degree in engineering at the University of California, Davis. In 1973, they moved to Sunnyvale, Calif., when James began his career in engineering.

Sue came back to Vacaville in 1979 and purchased Hong Kong Restaurant and began her second career as a business owner. She continued operation of the restaurant which was established in 1964 by her father-in-law, Jimmy Y. Leung. She sold the restaurant in 1988 much to the disappointment of her many customers, who, even to this day, reminisce about the delicious food they enjoyed in her dining room.

After James' retirement in 1996, she traveled with him extensively around the world. She was fond of cruises and trips to Reno, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas. She enjoyed day trips with her girlfriends to Cache Creek and Thunder Valley. She enjoyed playing mahjong, gardening and country line dancing.

After being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2006, she lived courageously. She found tremendous comfort and strength from her faith in God throughout her trials and suffering. She was an incredible example of bravery and courage to her family and friends in her determination and will to fight her disease.

Sue is survived by her husband of 39 years, James Shui Man Leung; brothers, Anthony Tse of San Francisco, Terry Tse (wife Ling Ling) of Colma and Tommy Tse (wife Pamela) of San Francisco. She will be missed dearly by her children, daughter, Lucinda Hsu (husband Paul) of Fremont; daughter, Sabina Chang (husband Kenneth) of Singapore; and son, Lawrence (wife Melanie) of San Francisco. She was beloved by her grandchildren, Matthew, Jackson, Ella, Davis, Leanna and Derek; and her faithful dog, Cotton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wing Yee Tse and Sook Wan Seto; sister, Elaine Leong; and brother, Yau Yin Tse.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Nadeau Family Funeral Home, 180 E. Monte Vista Ave., Vacaville. Visitation will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that gifts be made in honor of Sue Jane Leung to the Solano County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
