Dear Judy, Karen & Matthew,
I was so very saddened to learn of David's passing. I have known David since he was a "little guy" having grown up being best friends with his cousin, Cheryl. He was always so happy and was always smiling. I had not seen David for several years, but when I saw him again at Kristy's wedding he had not changed from that "little guy." He still had his warm and beautiful smile. I just know that he is smiling down on all of us everyday. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. Please take good care and God Bless You Always. Fondly, Darlene Pohlod Wills

David Lapos
Wrote this when I heard in Feb. and misplaced it.
1. I first met Dave @ Ellen's jam during my first banjo year (with Ellen, Betsy, Fred Weiss, others?). Very accomplished banjo player who I still try to emulate. Handsome, quiet, great smile and physique that I only now learned came from his weight lifting with a high school buddy. Learned of his devotion to teaching “tough” kids and respected him greatly for that ability and commitment.
2. Heard at Betsy's post party after our street performance in Phoenixville that Dave went to HUP for multiple myeloma chemotherapy. Since I work there, I visited several times and brought him needed appurtenances from “the gang”.
3. Talked with and heard Dave play several times at Tom's barn and other places.
4. We met at Judy and Jack's jam where he said he was ok now but would rather die than go through another round of chemo (very, very nauseated, weak, excruciating bone pain, hair loss) though he looked very happy together with his lady friend.
5. When I saw him some months later, he had gone through another round of chemo and was bald.
6. I last saw Dave at Old Fiddler's jam area last August. He looked fine and said he was fine but had not brought his banjo. I loaned him mine which he played for an hour or so, industriously comparing songs and breaks with another couple players.
7. Got Ellen's fateful message.
8. Miss him much. A bright, hard working, gifted joy of a person.

Dear Lapos Family,
I can't imagine how painful the loss of your dear David must be. I remember David from churst at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Lansford, from High School as I graduated in 1979, and all those summers we spent at Mauch Chunk Lake. David was also kind and smiling - enjoyed life to the fullest. When those we love have left this earth, we still can feel them near. We'll see a picture, hear a song, and it's just like they are here. Take comfort in your memories of David. I know I feel blessed to have known him.

David Lapos was such a fine scholar and wonderful teacher. He introduced me to the importance of the Reading Specialist as a Literacy Coach. I believe his students were quite fortunate to have his support as a teacher. I know I feel blessed to have known him as a scholar when I was a relatively new professor at Kutztown University. With heartfelt sympathy, Dr. Jeanie Burnett

Dave was a very kind and genuine person. I came to know Dave while working with him at Saint Gabriel's Hall. He had a love for learning to play music and we found the time to practice together. My family affectionately knew him as Banjo Boy. We put together a little group called the Rambling Boys and his debut was at the first annual Father Folk Festival. His picking and grinning brought the house down. Dave's passing has saddened us all and we will miss him.

David was the boy next door who stole your heart with his smile and humor...one of a kind. He loved his family more than anything and he was at his happiest when he would gather with them on any occasion. I loved watching him play with Zack and Nate, the game turtle...he was a little boy at heart and his laugh set the world on fire. I am so thankful to have been part of his world for the past 12 years. He held a very special place in my heart and was always MY FRIEND!
I am deeply sadden by the loss and send so many prayers your way for comfort and support and love. God has him for now, he is probably swimming in his OWn Eternal lake and playing a banjo of Gold with the angels. I will miss him so, but know that one day we will all be together in Heaven. No more pain and suffering.
God Bless and keep each of you in his loving and caring hands. Love to all.

David was my best friend in our senior year of high school at panther valley. We trained together and competed in a body building contest. We hung out at mauch chunk lake and spent alot of time together. He was such a cool guy. So unique and funny. He did a great Mick Jagger impersonation and had the moves like jagger. I'll miss him but I know I will see him again. May God be with you in your time of grieving.

I went to school with David, he helped me with my Chemistry class without even asking him. In later years I saw him at Mauch Chunk lake. He looked wonderful, we talked about lifting weights a lot. He was probably one of the nicest people I will ever meet. I'm so sorry.

We have many wonderful memories of David from the time he worked with us at Carbon County AVTS..especially when he shared in celebrating our wedding day in 1989. Knowing David he must have had a successful career, and "made a difference" in many lives. He left this earth too soon, but he must have completed God's plan for his life. We hope you will find peace and comfort in the love of family of friends - you are in our thoughts and prayers.

It has been some years since I have seen David. I recall him as a regular at the Phoenixville YMCA and a weight lifting instructor. David always had an uplifting presence. Great guy. Great loss of a fantastic human spirit.
