Lloyd Hope Obituary

LLOYD HOPE, SR. Lloyd W. Hope, Sr., 94, of Vero Beach, FL and formerly of Souderton, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012. He and his wife, Catherine (Paules) Hope celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary June 21st. Born January 18, 1918, in Souderton, Mr. Hope was the son of the late Rudolph E. and Estella (Wagner) Hope. He was a 1935 graduate of Souderton High School and attended a clothing design school. He joined his father in the retail clothing business in July 1935. First known as "R.E. Hope Clothing Co., it later became "Hopes of Souderton." He was a veteran of WWII, serving one year in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He was president of the Souderton Board of Trade; a member of the Souderton-Telford Rotary Club for 38 years; and served on the Board of Directors of Union National Bank in Souderton for 17 years. He was active in organizing the Souderton Community Pool in 1946. An avid golfer his entire life, he was a charter member of Indian Valley Country Club in 1953. He lived most of his life in Souderton. In 1981, he moved to Tarpon Bay Yacht Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. While there he was president of the Property Owners Association for 3 years and president of the Condo Association for 10 years. He moved to Indian River Estates, Vero Beach, FL in December 1998. While there, he was active on several committees. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Dolores Smoot and her husband, Henry, of McLean, VA; three children, Jo Benton of Atlanta, GA, Lloyd Hope and his wife, Joyce, of Downingtown and Roger Hope and his wife, Sue, of Telford; five grandchildren, Brook Benton and his wife, Kelly, James Hope, Ryan Hope and his wife, Alice, Randy Hope and his wife, Megan and Julie Ziegler and her husband, Doug; and eight great-grandchildren, Reese Benton, Hannah and Hunter Hope, Reilly, Patrick and Caroline Hope, and Kami and Mitch Ziegler. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Hope; one stepsister, Thelma Steven; and one stepbrother, Robert Barr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 11:30AM Saturday, July 28, at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford (Franconia Twp.), where family will receive friends from 11to 11:30AM. The burial is private and will take place prior to the memorial service at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
