David was born November 12, 1945, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Thomas Christopher and Ethel Ayers Shepherd.
Mr. Shepherd was a self-employed master mason most of his working life. Much of his work can be seen around downtown Columbus and especially the Tipton Lakes neighborhood. Prior to becoming a master mason, David served his country in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged from service. Fishing was his real passion. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and Cleveland Browns football. He was an avid I.U. basketball and football fan. David will be deeply missed by those that know and love him.
Survivors include his children, David Allen (Shannon) Shepherd, Holli (Joseph) Barger, both of North Vernon, Leslie Shepherd of Bloomington, Thomas Shepherd of Columbus; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, many extended family members; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Anthony Lucas; five brothers; two sisters and companion, Linda McDonough.
The funeral service for Mr. Shepherd will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Jake Ross officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
