Patricia Lucas Obituary
Patricia Elaine Lucas, 82, died on October 4, 2025, at her home while resting peacefully in her sun room. Patricia was born in Jackson County and spent most of her life in the Columbus area, and in her later years enjoyed warm winters at her home in Punta Gorda, Florida. A Columbus High School graduate, Patricia later attended and received a degree in Photographic Arts from IVY Tech. She was an entrepreneur who developed and ran multiple successful businesses, most notably her photography business, Wallaby Woods, which included a professional studio and subjects ranging from portraits to scenery.
Patricia's family and community were her first priority. She had deep love, wise guidance and endless time for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A committed volunteer, Patricia donated her time to multiple organizations, including Girl Scouts of America, Columbus Regional Hospital and the Columbus Visitors Center. She was an extraordinary role model and fierce advocate for those she loved.
An excellent cook, Patricia's dishes (especially her homemade noodles) were eagerly anticipated at family gatherings and her pies received top awards at the county fair. An avid gardener, Patrica grew vegetables and herbs and her homes were always made cheerful with flowers. Her design talents were evident in her beautifully decorated homes with picturesque landscaping. Throughout her adult life Patricia was a talented and prolific painter. Her watercolor, acrylic, pour art and collage works are cherished by family, friends and customers. She also enjoyed traveling, and explored much of the United States and favorite locations in Europe with family and friends.
It is far from evident from her achievements, but Patricia was continuously challenged by chronic diseases causing progressive deterioration and pain at levels which few of us could stand to endure, much less overcome. Her strength and grace are an inspiration to all who knew her.
Patricia is deeply mourned and survived by daughters Wendy Brickman (Sean Kubovcik), Cynthia Lawson and Becky Meyer, grandchildren Kayleigh Sagonowsky (Eric), Emma Schneider (Cameron), Evan Meyer (Schelby Lane), Lucas Lawson, and Tatem Lawson, and her most recent sources of joy, great-grandsons Carsen Schneider, Lane Schneider and Bodie Sagonowsky. A private burial will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Pat's daughters welcome family and friends to join them at an open house on October 12th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Villas of Stonecrest Clubhouse, 5055 Boca Grande Boulevard, where we'll celebrate Pat's life well lived.
The family is grateful for the comfort and support provided by the dedicated professionals at Our Hospice and Cornerstone Caregiving who made it possible for Patricia to pass with dignity and peace. Donations in Patricia's memory may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Jackson County History Center, an organization Patricia leveraged in her genealogy research (another passion) and has supported with donations including historical items.
