John Silas Parton

Whittier, NC-John Silas Parton, 85 of Whittier passed away Oct 31, 2023. A native of Whittier he departed this world on the property where he was born with his daughter and devoted dog, Danny Boy at his side.
He leaves behind his daughter, Julia Margaret Parton Nichols, his sister Mikey Parton Terry Duckett and beloved nieces, nephew and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Verna Burns Parton and his brothers James Lafayette Parton, Walter Teague Parton and Thomas "Buck" Brownlow Parton.
John was an accomplished attorney who practiced law in multiple states and territories within the continental and non-continental U.S. before returning home to practice locally and in the Cherokee Courts. He was often available to represent those who could not afford an attorney and gave those clients his best.
He was an avid hiker. In the summer of 2020 John hiked the highest peaks of Ireland when he traveled there to visit the home of his ancestors. It was the trip of his lifetime.
He hiked the Deep Creek Trail daily in all seasons where he always made new friends and delighted in sharing his knowledge of the forest and its wildlife.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Crisp Funeral Home in Bryson City Nov 11, 2023. Family will begin receiving guests at 1:30pm and the service will begin at 2pm. Family and friends will be encouraged to share stories and memories of John.
