Allen Keene Obituary

PINCKNEYVILLE - Allen G. "Jerry" Keene, 73, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, in Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Jerry was born June 21, 1934, in Pinckneyville, a son to Sidney and Lola Mae (Heine) Keene. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On July 11, 1964, he married Mary Catherine Janini in Du Quoin, and she survives. In his lifetime, he worked at Elk Coal Co., Hallidayboro, Green Diamond Mine, Marissa and Consolidation Coal at the Shuline Mine 3 and De Soto 5 and was the owner of the former Red Barn Antiques in Pinckneyville. He was of Lutheran faith and a member of Masonic Lodge of Du Quoin for 50 years. He was also a member of United Mine Workers Association; Eagle Lodge in Pinckneyville; National Trapper Association and an avid collector of antique traps and collectables; charter member of Moose Lodge 930 in Pinckneyville; former member of Perry County Sportsman Club; previous Democratic Precinct Committeeman; enjoyed hunting and dog trials; and loved his home and neighborhood north of Pinckneyville.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine of Pinckneyville; a son, Thorn Keene and wife, Connie, of Peoria; two daughters, Tracy Weber and husband, Craig, of Robinson and Tara Oglesby and husband, Peter, of Maryville; a sister, Louise Moore and husband, Jim, of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Ashley Kellerman, Alex and Nick Weber and Alyssa, Logan and Lauren Keene.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, in St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville, with Father Brian Barker officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be provided by Daffron-Presswood American Legion Post 2504 in Pinckneyville. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville. Masonic rites will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial donations may be made to Pinckneyville Hospital Home Health or St. Bruno Catholic Church.

I am very sorry for your loss.

On the way to church today I noted the extra cars at the house but did not think much of it. I was just now reviewing the news online and noted Allen's passing. He was a good friend to my Father and was always very cordial to me. May God bless you all during this time.
