Gawain Frick Obituary

MANITO - Gawain D. Frick, 88, of Manito, formerly of Bonnie, died at 8:18 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2007, in Mason City Area Nursing Home.

He was born Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1918, in Hamilton County to John Frick and Flora (McGee) Frick.

He married Marie Hibbs and she preceded him in death. He later married Amelia Morris and she preceded him in death. He then married Geraldine Morgan in Vandalia on Nov. 30, 1993.

He was a coal miner.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, in Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, with the Rev. Jesse Allen officiating. Members of Mount Vernon American Legion Post 141 will perform full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2007, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Frick of Manito; son, Gary Gilbert and wife, Vickie, of Manito; two daughters, Patricia Martin Mocaby and husband, Don, of Whittington and Carol Ann Bragg and husband, Rick, of Battle Creek, Mich.; four brothers, Harold Frick and wife, Roberta, of Waltonville, John Frick Jr. and friend, Clara, of Evansville, Ind., Dean Frick and wife, Colleen, of Bonnie and Gene Frick and wife, Joann, of Bonnie; stepson, Eddie Brooks and wife, Connie, of Benton; stepdaughter, Janet Hoffman and husband, Melvin, of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren, Joy Campbell, Troy and John Martin, Kevin and Jason Riley, Kathy Garrison, Jeff Gilbert, Christy Whitaker, Julie Pokorny, Mike Gilbert and Lisa Richman; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; first and second wives; one son, Larry Gilbert; and one sister, Florence Pickett preceded him in death.

Gawain was a World War II veteran of the Troop Transport Detachment of the U.S. Coast Guard, was a member of VFW Post 9153 in Waltonville and Bonnie Methodist Church.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, IL 62864.
