George Cobin Obituary

DOWELL - George Cobin, 82, passed away at 6:43 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at his residence.

George had been a partner for 60 years in Cobin Salvage. He was a member of the Protection of Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Royalton. He was a member of the Dowell American Legion for 60 years and a member of Du Quoin VFW. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born May 10, 1925, in Dowell, the son of Frank and Anna (Malega) Cobin Sr.

He married Betty Lou Burns on July 20, 1946, in De Soto. She preceded him in death Oct. 28, 2006.

He is survived by one daughter, Georgette Buck of Dowell; one son, Michael Cobin of Dowell; one daughter-in-law, Patty Ansley of Belleville; eight grandchildren, David Brown and wife, Janice, of Orlando, Kent Brown and wife, Billie, of Ohio, Jamie Ansley of Wisconsin, Shane Cobin and wife, Tracy, of Elkville, Michelle Miller and husband, Ed, of Mulberry Grove, Amanda Cobin of Royalton, Toni Morgan and husband, Todd, of Elkville and Ryan Buck of Dowell; one sister, Mary Richerand of Metarie, La., 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Barry Brown; one sister; Ann Stepson; one sister in infancy; and five brothers, Steve Cobin, Frank Cobin, John Cobin, Charles Cobin and Mike Cobin.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with Monsignor Harry J. Jerome officiating. Burial will be in the Elkville Cemetery with military rites presented by Dowell and Murphysboro American Legion. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Requiem Parastas at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Protection of Virgin Mary Orthodox Church or Dowell American Legion and will be accepted at the funeral home.
