Joshua Bates Obituary

CARTERVILLE - Joshua Vincent Bates, 46, of Carterville, was received into heaven on Aug. 14, 2024, after passing away of natural causes.

Joshua was born on June 19, 1978, at Alton Memorial hospital in Alton. He was the son of Corey and Lillian (Guccione) Bates.

Joshua graduated from Alton Senior High School in 1996 and later moved to Carbondale to apprentice as a tattoo artist. Upon completion of his training, he opened a shop in Marion, and later became owner and lead tattooist for Hard Times Tattoos in Carbondale. When this shop closed, Joshua continued to provide tattoo services on a free-lance basis.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two sons, Christopher Vincent Bates (19) and Connor Matthew Bates (16), both of Carbondale; a brother, Dr. Clark Robert Bates and his wife Jessica (Timmermeir) of Birmingham United Kingdom, with three nephews, Tony, Alex and Levi, and two nieces, Tayla and Bethany; plus multiple aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Bobby and Alice (Breed) Bates and Vincent and Betty (Cowan) Guccione.

Private graveside services were Saturday, Aug. 24, for family members. Gent Funeral Home in Alton was in charge of arrangements. Additional information and online guest book can be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com.
