Justin Merritt Obituary

HERRIN - Justin Ray Merritt, 17, of Herrin, died tragically at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2007, at South Sandusky Beach at Rend Lake.

Justin was born Sept. 13, 1989, in Carbondale to Byron Merritt and Sharon (Whitaker) Owens.

Mr. Merritt worked the last five months in production at Hardee's in Herrin.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Owens and her fiancé, Nick Seabaugh, of Herrin; his father, Byron Merritt and wife, Leigh, of Jackson, Mo.; brother, James Coulter Jr. of Herrin; brother, Brandan Merritt of Herrin; brother, Anthony Merritt of Herrin; sister, Amanda Haynes of Cape Girardeau; paternal grandmother, Nancy Sue Merritt; maternal grandparents, Ken and Jo Ann Temple; nephew, Adam Haynes; sister-in-law, Renee Lea Crim; aunts and uncles, Shawn Merritt, Dawn Merritt, David Merritt, Christine Merritt, Scott Temple, Phillip Temple, Kenny Temple and Charles Whitaker; and cousins, Brittany Merritt, Shawn Patrick Merritt, Shane Davis, Tiffany Merritt and Trenton Merritt.

He was preceded in death by his cousin, David "DJ" Merritt.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the funeral home.

I would just like to wish your family the best.Justin took up for me nonstop. and it killed me to here this. I loved him very much and will pray for him and you guys (the family) to no end.i just wish i had been there a little longer to see him.

Hey I'm so sorry to hear about Justin he was just at our house the day before the accident.We didnt know Justin very well but he was well liked by our daughter Renee who thought of him as her best friend.Our prayers are with you may Jehova bless you and your family through these tragic times.

justin was amazing funny sweet and kind hearted usually. he always had my back. i dont see why he had to go so early...he promised he would never leave, but never say never cuz what you're saying never too always usually ends up coming true. i might not of loved him as a b/f anymore but i did love him very much as a friend. i hope he's happy now.

justin was an amazing guy and will be greatly miss... i've known justin since 8th grade.. he could make anyone laught he was funny and out going and this world will not be the same with out him... he will be greatly missed!!!!
