Pauline Gray Obituary

CARTERVILLE - Pauline Phillips Garavaglia Gray, 92, of St. Cloud, Fla., formerly of Carterville, passed away at 5:38 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce (Phillips) and Ed Grimes, with her family by her side.

Pauline was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Anna, to Charles and Dulcie Crain. She later moved from Anna to Carterville, where she grew up.

She married Joe Phillips in December 1937. While living in Carterville, she worked at Carterville Café. Pauline and Joe had one daughter, Joyce.

She later married Romeo "Butch" Garavaglia. Together they owned and operated Herrin Packing Co. They later moved to Jensen Beach, Fla.

Several years after Romeo's death, she married Charles Gray of Marion.

Pauline lived in Herrin before she moved to Marion to live with Joyce and Ed. In 2007, Joyce, Ed and Pauline moved to St. Cloud, Fla.

While living in Southern Illinois, Pauline attended Harvest Time Worship Center in Herrin. After moving to St. Cloud, she attended St. Cloud Church of the Nazarene.

Pauline is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Ed Grimes of St. Cloud, Fla.; three granddaughters and their husbands, Teresa and Jude Torchia of The Woodlands, Texas, Lisa Grimes of Plant City, Fla., and Jeanette and Brian Becker of Melbourne, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Jayd Torchia of Spring, Texas, Jaira Torchia of The Woodlands, Texas, Blake, Grant, Chase and Stevie Becker, all of Melbourne, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; brother; and her three husbands.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy, with the Rev. Todd Hawk officiating. Funeral services were Saturday, May 30, 2009, in Osceola Memory Gardens in St. Cloud, Fla., with the Rev. Myron Sartin officiating.

Memorials contributions may be made to Harvest Time Worship Center, 1001 S. 17th St., Herrin, IL 62948 or to St. Cloud Nazarene Church, P.O. Box 535, St. Cloud, FL 34770. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.

DEAR JOYCE, SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR MOTHER PASSING. MISS PAULINE WAS LIKE A MOTHER TO ME. SHE WAS A LOVELY LADY AND I HAVE MISSED HER SO MUCH SINCE MY SISTER AVIS PASSED. I LOST MY THIRD SON IN JANUARY, LIFE IS SO SHORT.

Pauline was a great lady and I am so lucky to have had her in my life. While Pauline had a long and beautiful life, she will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. Brian, Jeanette, Blake, Grant, Chase and Stevie Becker will always love you.
