R. Waldron Obituary

CARTERVILLE -- Russell "Dago" Waldron, 91, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, in Herrin Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Pastors Max Johnson and Mike Williams officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville with interment rites by the Rev. Dorothy Cook. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund, 203 Virginia Avenue, Carterville, IL 62918. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Dago was born June 30, 1921, in Bush, to Noah and Beulah (Williamson) Waldron.

He married Gladys Halstead on Nov. 5, 1950, in Piggott, Ark.; she preceded him in death Sept. 5, 1952. He later married Jeanetta Hall on Feb. 17, 1955, in Tunica, Miss.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jeanetta Waldron of Carterville; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Suzy Ward of Carterville, William Phillip and Rosie Penrod of Carterville, Connie and Steve Sims of Herrin, Candy and Paul Calcaterra of Herrin, Rusty and Carol Waldron of Carbondale, Nancy and Kenneth Robinson of Sesser, Cathy and Randy Hoffman of Lincoln, Rosemary Hall of Energy, Evadean Church of Cambria, Lynda and Don Burris of Energy, Norma and Robert Drake of Cambria, Phyllis Russell of Cambria, Vickie and Ed Hayes of Florida, Gary and Laneice Hall of Key West, Fla., David and Jane Baker of Sesser, and Jack and Peggy Williamson of Jackson, Tenn.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; sister, Clara Fern Baker of Sesser; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Loretta Penrod of Carterville.

Dago was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gladys Waldron; daughter, Vickie Sue Waldron; brothers, George, Elvis and James Lewis Waldron; niece, Jean Smith; and nephew, Frankie Hall.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Carterville.

He retired in 1978 after 41 years as a coal miner for Freeman Coal.

Dago was very active after his retirement from the coal mines. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening. He was known to have a "home" remedy for anything and anyone.

He truly loved working at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home, meeting and greeting people always with a smile. Dago will be dearly missed.

Jeanetta, So sorry for your loss. He was my ray of sunshine at the clinic for many years. I always enjoyed his stories,home remedies and the smile he always wore. Love you both. He will be missed.
