Vemba Dapkunas Obituary

JOHNSTON CITY - Vemba Lois Dapkunas, 93, passed away at 7:43 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, in Herrin Hospital.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 9490 Illinois 148, Carterville. Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Vemba was born June 28, 1915, in Whiteash, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Wilkins) Coleman. She first married William Cockburn in 1935; he preceded her in death. She later married William Dapkunas on June 8, 1952. He also preceded her in death.

Vemba was retired from the Smoler Brother's Dress Factory in Herrin. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Carterville.

Survivors include one son, William Cockburn of Florissant, Mo.; two daughters, Madelyn Jones and husband, Mike, of Johnston City and Marsha Deming of Johnston City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a son-in-law, Tony DePasquale of Steger.

She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Cockburn; one daughter, Marilyn DePasquale and her parents.
