Viola Jones Obituary

HERRIN - Viola M. Jenkins Jones, 87, of McLeansboro, formerly of Herrin, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, in McLeansboro Rehab and Nursing Center.

Viola worked as a nurse for Allen Industries in Herrin for 25 years.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Herrin and volunteered at the Herrin Pantry. She was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Williamson County, to Herbert and Mamie (Sanders) Grant.

Viola first married Tom Trout. She then married Frank Jenkins who preceded her in death in 1986, and she then married Charlie Jones, who died in 2001.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Larry G. and Kathryn Trout, Sr. of Montpelier, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gib Carrell of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Larry G. Trout, Jr. and his wife, Monica of North East, Md., Eric B. Trout and his wife, Susan of Richmond, Va., John Carrell and his wife, Pam of McLeansboro and Julie Erwin and her husband, Chad of McLeansboro; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Horace "Dent" and Alma Grant of Johnston City; three sisters, Helena Kelton of Marion, Mary Ellen Hinckle of Goreville and Delores Kelton of Marion; sister-in-law, Patricia Grant of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; three brothers, Harland Grant, Obed Grant, Lindell Dean Grant; and one sister, Lola Bandy.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Ron Henwood officiating. Interment will be in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are the suggested form of remembrance and may be made to First Christian Church or the Herrin Pantry in Herrin; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
