Curtis Hodson Obituary

Curtis Ray Hodson

Virginia/Cedar City

Curtis (Curt) Ray Hodson was born 25 Aug 1960 in Provo, Utah to Max Vernon & Renone Littlefield Hodson. He passed away 24 November 2014 in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Curtis attended schools in Roswell, New Mexico, Southern Utah University, and graduated from Utah University with a degree in music education. He married Barbara Kay Ford on 27 December 1984 and later divorced. They had a son Daniel Ford Hodson.

Curtis taught music for a time at Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah. He began working in the manufacturing of office and department store furniture in Cedar City, Utah and South Dakota, Indiana, and Virginia. He said that being a project manager was like conducting an orchestra.

Curtis loved the mountains of Utah. Enjoyed hiking and seeking the solicitude he found there. He found joy in music and was an accomplished trumpet player and music teacher. Family and friends enjoyed his sense of humor. Curtis was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather.

Curtis is survived by his son Danny (Amanda), grandson Ryker Ray, parents, sisters Suzanne (Steve) Ewing of Las Cruses, New Mexico, Joanna (David) Creager of Plain City, Utah, and brother Alan Hodson of Cedar City, Utah, and many nieces and nephews.

Planned visiting arrangements will be Saturday, 29 Nov 2014 at the Southern Utah Mortuary from 10:00am to 10:45am followed by a graveside service in the Cedar City cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com

Dear Renon and Max,
I have so many fond memories of Curtis. I remember that he spoke at my baptism and he was the first boy to ask me to dance. He taught me how to pack a backpack, and he taught me to appreciate jazz and the trumpet - he even took me to a Maynard Ferguson concert. My first time to Cedar Breaks was with him and there was a lot of snow. He joked that I hiked in the snow like a New Mexican and he was right! God bless you with peace and sweet memories of Curtis too. Love, Mary Noonan

I am very sorry to hear this. Curtis made band such a great experience and I think about him often. I know Curtis cared about his students and he was the only teacher I felt I could talk to about any problems I had. Thanks for all the great memories Curtis!

My sympathy on Curtis's passing. In addition to losing a son and brother, the world lost a band teacher. They are a special breed.
I wish you the comfort of happy memories - hold them close.
With Love,

He was such an amazing teacher. I know I wouldn't have graduated if it wasn't for him. He cared about each of us and made band a memorable experience. RIP Curtis. You will be missed.
