Kay Bundy Obituary

Cowboy, this last ride was "tuff", but you pulled on your boots, and put down your cowboy hat, and made it to the final buzzer. Kay Argwen Bundy passed peacefully away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 with his loved ones by his side, and the world lost one of the last true All- Around Cowboys.

His family called him "Arg" but the rest of the world knew him as Kay. He was the 8th of 17 children born to Chet and Genavieve Bundy on May 27, 1936, at Mt. Trumbull, Arizona. He enjoyed the wide open spaces of the Arizona Strip, and rode his horse to school on most days. He helped his dad with the sheep and cattle, and then at the tender age of 16 he left home to work, and learned to drive truck.

He met his sweetheart, Norma Jean Hoesch at a Rodeo in Panguitch, Utah, and they were sealed for all eternity in the St. George, LDS Temple on April 19, 1957. Together, they raised 8 children. Kendell (Diana)Bundy, Kayleen (Mark) Potter, Debbie (William) Alvey, Rachel (Doug) Truman, Casey (Mikel) Bundy, Marty (Danna) Bundy, Jenny (Danny) Ipson, and Amy (Chase) Olsen.

One of Kay's first jobs was driving heavy equipment for the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, in Page, Arizona. He worked on the diversion tunnels that rerouted the mighty Colorado River so the Dam could be constructed. While working there he was drafted into the Army and served his time in Fort, Lewis Washington. When they learned he had driving experience and knowledge of vehicles he was made an acting Sargent and was given a job taking care of the Army's vehicles, and driving his superiors.

After his work on Glen Canyon Dam, he had enough money to buy his own truck and cattle trailer. He began his career driving truck and being his own boss. He eventually bought a couple of Dozers, and a flat bed trailer, but his goal in life was to be a cattle rancher. So he eventually purchased the "Old Crosby Place" out on Mt. Trumbull where he began raising cattle and kids.

Ranching and Rodeo were his passion and he always wanted his own Rodeo Company so in the early 70's he began "Kay Bundy Rodeos." He enjoyed his associations with all the cowboys and their families, and truly loved the sport. He eventually sold his business and ranched full-time.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving as home-teacher, Elders Quorum President, High Counselor, and Bishop of the St. George, Utah East Stake 6th Ward.

He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, his 8 children, 25 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Owen Bundy, Ila May Blake, Nina Vee Hughes, Lenna Rue Shaffer, Bonnie McCallister, Clo Ella Andrus, JoEtta Whitwer, Mark Bundy and Eddie Bundy, and many, many neices, nephews and cousins! He will be missed by all.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care given to Dad by Dixie Hospice Specialists, Pauline, Mary Ellen, Chad, and Nurse Jen, and Mendy and David Stucki at Elderberry Care.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at the St. George 5th & 6th Ward Chapel on Flood Street. Friends are invited to a viewing on Monday, September 2, at the 5th and 6th Ward Chapel from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, prior to services, at 10:30-10:45 a.m. Arrangements are under the care of Heideman Hughes Mortuary 435-674-5000.
