Kenneth Imlay Obituary

Kenneth Ray Imlay

Cedar City, Utah

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was born February 13, 1949, in Cedar City, Utah, to Kenneth Derol and Jane Melling Imlay. Kenneth was the first born of 4 children. He married his sweetheart, Christine Ashdown on February 23, 1968. They spent 47 wonderful years together.

Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Cedar City and was proud to be an "east sider." He graduated from SUSC in 1972 with a degree in Botany. He went to work for Utah Power & Light, later Rocky Mtn. Power, where he retired after 40 years. Kenneth was a hard worker who could build anything and fix everything, especially when it came to cars. He was a good teacher who shared his talent, knowledge and ability to fix things with others. His honesty, loyalty and integrity was an example to his family and others. He took great pride in his work and was very meticulous. He enjoyed working in his shop restoring classic cars. He could be found working on the farm each day, sometimes from sun-up until sun-down. Every year he looked forward to bow camp with his friends and always had a good time with them. He loved being a grandpa and teaching his grandsons how to work and also how to have fun.

Kenneth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Cedar City Elks Lodge.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Chris, daughter Krista (Travis) Clark of Reno, NV, and son Kennan (Abby) Imlay of Cedar City. He is survived by his mother Jane of Cedar City, sister Annette (Howard) Foremaster of Washington, UT, brothers Mark (LynAnn) of New Harmony, UT, and Lewis (Jean) of Washington, UT, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his 7 grandsons whom he adored: Brock, Jace, Rylan and Kamden Clark and Kache, Korver and Keller Imlay. He was preceded in death by his father, Derol Imlay, infant daughter and sister-in-law Valerie Imlay.

A viewing will be held Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 N. 300 W. Cedar City and from 10:00-11:30 am on Saturday, February 7 at the Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7 at 12:00 noon at the Cedar 9th ward chapel, 256 S. 900 W. Interment will be at the Cedar City cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com.

Sure going to miss Imlay. We had some great times at the coffee club and bow camp. Always a kick to be around. Left us way to early.
"Today we lost the greatest man of the greatest generation ... He was the greatest because of the love in his heart - plain and simple - his love for God, his wife, his children, his extended family and even those who he just met."

lots of memories with Imlay. Great man. One of my favorites up to bow camp. Watched him get a great big buck, with his bow on a drive. He will be missed. Hope all is well. Keeping your family in our thoughts. So sorry for this loss. We'll see him again. Hopefully he has an eye out for a big buck for me!

To the Imlay family,

I was both shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth. When I first transfered to the Cedar City service center, I quickly learned that if you needed to know anything about how things worked, work processes, who did what, it was Kenneth. He made me feel most welcome into the new work group I had transfered into. He had both wit and wisdom, and usually combined the two during a conversation. I looked forward to each morning when Ken would come in early, as he always did, and just chatting with him about nothing inparticular. A caring and generous man, I count him as my friend and he is already dearly missed. God bless you and your family.

Dear Chris and family,

Kenneth welcomed me to Cedar City and the Cedar RMP family with the most genuine smile. He was incredibly kind and thoughtful. He was most loyal to all the RMP family.

When I met Chris, she gave me the most sincere beaming smile. I consider Ken and Chris my friends. People whom I respect, and also make me smile the minute your names are mentioned.

Chris, family, and your very close friends, I'm so sorry for your loss. Words can't express how much Kenneth's passing affects all of us.

Please know that Kenneth's quick smile, which was always on the rascally side and the twinkle in his eyes, will be something I cherish always.

A good, kind, decent, funny man will be missed by many. I hope my words gives you some solace at this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Leslie Oberg

He had such a genuine sweet heart, and spirit about him and it was my pleasure to be able to get to know him. He always made me feel good here at work, and he will truly be missed by all of us here at Rocky Mountain Power.
