He earned a Master's Degree from Bloomington, Ind. And a Doctorate from Syracuse, NY. He also earned many awards and was recognized for many accomplishments during his 25 year career at SUU as an educator. Phil loved his job and never considered retirement as a option. Phil was active with his church and held several positions. He sang in the choir until his health interfered. Phil was preceded in death by his Father, Mother and Dickie. He is survived by his Brother: David (Clainey) Dillard of Las Vegas, NM. Sister: Dianne (Jim) Yoder of Highland, CA. Philip married Phyllis and had two Children LeeAnn (Eric) Bowman, Albuquerque, NM and Son: Jeff (Sherrie) Las Cruces, NM. Grandchildren: Alison Munyos and Robbie Dillard. They traveled and camped through the Yukon and then to Alaska where Jill panned for gold in Dawson Creek.

Phil loved new adventures and found time to compose and write two books, he loved Gilbert and Sullivan; How Quaint the Ways of Paradox and Sir Arthur Sullivan. His next interest was fixing, repairing and painting; first it was Volkswagens, and then Fiats. He found one in Bear Valley rotting away behind an old cabin; he restored it and drove it to work a 61 Fiat.

Phil's health was the only thing that made him slow down. Jill had experience in Home Health/Geriatrics and tried to make life better. Phil was battling Diabetes and its complications. Jill met Phil while he was teaching ASL for the deaf at Ellensburg, WA CMU.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 at 11:00 AM in The Trinity Lutheran Church (410 E 1935 N) in Cedar City, UT (across from Fiddler's Elementary).

Thank you, Dr. Dillard, for the good times that you sponsored for our small Deaf Community in Las Cruces. And also, very heartfelt thanks for the two kittens that you bestowed to me. As you, the little cats brought happiness and cherished memories to my life. Heartfelt thanks and forever memories.

Another connection to Dr. Dillard were through my unforgettable cats - July and Tampa, adopted from him. They were very dear, and impossible to forget that Dr. Phil Dillard adopted them out to me. Small events, perhaps, for many, but cherished memories for a lifetime. Thank you Dr. Phil Dillard & family for so many fond, lovely and wonderful memories!

Dr. Phil Dillard was a professor of ASL at NMSU in the 1970's was an enthusiastic and kind supporter of the Las Cruces deaf community. He opened his home to ASL classes and the deaf community for social and movies that were subtitled for the deaf. Those were the days "captioned movies" for the deaf. Thank you Dr. Dillard for your kindness and efforts in helping deaf people to fell a part of, and to join the world at large. Go with God, my friend.
