Robert Shire Obituary

Robert Frank "Bob" Shire

St. George

Robert Frank "Bob" Shire, 64, died Saturday Nov 14, 2015. He was born Aug 1951 in Denver, Colorado to Betty J. Tovrea & Leonard Shire. His first marriage was in Hawaii to Carolyn. His final marriage was in Oregon to Angelika.

Bob was born and raised in Denver, Colorado until he was 15, when he and his Mom moved to his maternal uncle's in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from J. Marshall High School (1969), a year early. Enlisting at age 17, Bob joined the US Coast Guard as a foul weather Boatswain Mate. Retired as Boatswain Mate First Class after 26 years of service, both active and reserves. He was dearly loved by his fellow Coasties. Bob held a Bachelor of Science from Portland State University ('78) and a Master's of Science from University of Portland ('81). Bob would see many occupations in his life, most significant was his service as a Police Officer for several years in both Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles, California.

Bob was a man known for his sense of humor and kindness to those who knew him well. He was an extremely hard worker, even up to the day he died. Bob loved homes! Buying, selling, renting and remodeling houses, especially ones he lived in. Bob enjoyed brightening other peoples' day and always was quick to help a friend.

In the last years of his life, Bob took much pleasure in his young twin daughters with enduring storytelling and scriptures nightly, all snuggled up together. Bob loved nothing more than playing silly games with them, making up funny songs and yogurt-treat outings.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Angelika (Utah); Children, Toshia (Eric Guardiola), Kaia, Skyler, and twins Ashlynn & Bella; Grandkids Ryan, Norah and Elle Guardiola. He is also survived by former wife Carolyn (Utah); Daughters Stephanie (Corey Clawson), Tiffany Shire; Grandkids Cody (Makenzie), Catie, Libby & Curtis Clawson; and Ginger Manuela; Half-Sister Nancy Shire-Popple (Colorado).

He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother Leonard Jr. (Colorado).

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 11am at the Spilsbury Mortuary 110 S. Bluff St., St. George. There will be a viewing prior to services from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment will take place in the Tonaquint Cemetery.

I knew Bob Shire in a different lifetime. We have not seen each other in over 25 years but there was a time when we were together almost every day. Bob and I were very different from each other in most ways but we did share a common interest in property. I will always remember Bob as a very bright, ambitious, hard working man and there is no question that I learned a lot from him. Much of what I do today is based on the knowledge Bob shared with me. Bob had recently reestablished contact with me over the last few years and I would have to say my impression was that he had found peace within himself and love in his family. I am sorry for your loss.
