Scott Taylor Obituary

Scott Alan Taylor

Springdale

Scott Alan Taylor, age 69, of Springdale, Utah, passed away on July 25, 2017 from brain cancer. He was born in June of 1948 to Weston and Florence Taylor in Provo, Utah where he spent his childhood. After the family moved to Salt Lake City, he graduated from Highland High in 1966. He attended U. of U. majoring in business administration. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 2 years serving on the battleship U.S.S. Oklahoma City primarily in Viet Nam.

After returning to the states, he met his life's partner, Donna, in S.L.C. They married in Feb of 1976, and he became father to her two children, Shelly and Denton. In 1977, they moved to Nampa, Idaho, where Scott worked with his brother, Craig. They formed a partnership in a used car and auto salvage business.

In 2004 Scott and Donna moved to Springdale, Utah anticipating retirement. Scott had many interests including camping, hiking, biking, fishing and golfing. He was an avid reader of history and proud of his wood working abilities. His favorite pastime was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with friends.

It has been said that Scott was a true gentleman; hard working by nature, but fun loving, generous and kind with a fantastic sense of humor. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. He will be honored by a celebration of his life in September.

So sad to hear of Scott's passing. He gave me a chance and hired me as a young man at his salvage yard CBASS in Payette Idaho. I was blessed to have worked and learned so many life lessons from him.

Scott and I served aboard USS Oklahoma City (CLG-5) from Jan. 1970 thru Dec. 1970. He had been aboard and in Navigation Div. before I had come aboard. Pictures herein were taken in Manila and while at Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan (with me, Scott & Jeff Turner pictured sitting in sidewalk/curb.

My sincerest condolences to Scott's family. He was a great Navy Quartermaster (Navigator)& shipmate who possessed a wonderful soul. He was among the "Band of Brothers" wrought from our Vietnam service. I'll miss you greatly my friend.

My sincerest condolences to Scott's family. We served together in WestPac in the early 1970s aboard the 7th Fleet Flagship, USS Oklahoma City (CLG-5). We were QMs (aka, ship's navigators). We shared and made so many wonderful memories along with QMs Perry Swenson, Jeff Harlacker, Don O'Brien, Mark Kinney, Gary Schock and other QMs; along with shipmates from other Okie-boat divisions (i.e., Jeff Turner, Bob Mann). (See submitted Navy photo.)

When I completed my 4-year Navy stint, Scott was one of several former shipmates from the Okie who had invited me to come-by to visit before settling-down anywhere. And I did in July 1973 while Scott live in SLC, UT.

An ol' saying goes that everyone we meet in life is meant to be. I'm so glad that I encountered Scott A. Taylor and fortunate that we became friends.

Yours is an incredible soul, "Scooter." I...we...will indeed miss you on this earth.

Donna I am so sorry to hear about the love of your life. I can remember when he would call work and ask for you. That smile on your face would tell us all the love you had for Scott. Know that you are in my prayers and thoughts at this time.

Dear Taylor family, I wish to express my deepest condolences to you for the loss of your husband and father, Scott. Although I did not know Scott we were shipmates aboard the USS Oklahoma City at the same time. When you feel it is the right time, could I suggest that you consider entering Scott's information on the ship's website www.ussokcity.com? Again, I am very sorry for your loss. God bless your family at this difficult time. Jim Blackburn RM 3 USS Oklahoma City CLG 5

What a wonderful world it would be if all men were like Scott!

And the same is true for you, Donna. You two were the perfect example of what a marriage should be. A marriage making beautiful memories for you to treasure.
