Winston Fong Obituary
St. George
Winston Kaulana Sam Fong, 74, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in St. George, Utah. Winston was born 18 August 1939 in the Waimea Hospital, Waimea, Kaua'i, Territory of Hawaii, to William Palenapa Sam Fong and Salome Kaliaakeao Mooiki. He was married and sealed to Wyoma Ranee Hoagland, 29 May 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Winston lived a life of service; selflessly and tirelessly giving time and effort despite physical handicaps and limited financial resources. Winston served his country in the Army and later in the CIA; his church as a missionary and in various church positions; and his community as a teacher and a volunteer coach.
The thousands of students and athletes whose lives he bettered through his dedication to their futures and the commitment to excellence stands as a testament of what Winston achieved in life. Having provided a consummate example of service to his children; Winston's legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren as they take up the torch of volunteer service through athletics and in the educational field.
His life was far from serene. He fought racism and bigotry. He battled financial strain with charity and service; always looking to provide assistance where needed. With faith unyielding and a deep knowledge of the Gospel he stood for his beliefs and bore his testimony freely. Certainly, he now continues his life of service beyond the veil.
Winston was preceded in death by both his father and mother; sister Ilima and oldest brother Wilfred; and brother-in-law Benjamin Kama, Jr.
He is survived by Wyoma, his wife of 47 years; his children, Cherie' Ho'opi'i, Kip (Hiroko) Sam Fong, Ilona Robison, Duke, Wylder and Ilima Sam Fong and 10 grandchildren; sisters, Francille, Bernadine, Leimomi and brother Willard.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 in the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT. Visitation will be Saturday, November 23 from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, UT.

I remember in high school when I played volleyball and basketball with Ilona you were always at every game and every practice! Your smile could be seen from the other side of the gym! Uncle Sam you are already greatly missed. So glad I was able to bring mom(Shirley), Aunt Deva, and Aunt Gail down in July for a visit. It was always fun to be around you. May God bless our family and you until we meet again.
