Barbara Stumph

1936 - 2021

Barbara Burns Stumph, age 85, of Mackville, KY passed away at 7:40 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at her home.
A native of Washington County, she was born on July 31, 1936, to the late Dewey and Myrtle Miller Burns.
She was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for twenty-seven years and remained assistant treasurer until 2021. She was a 1954 graduate of Mackville High School. She was a state retiree having worked in the Washington County PVA Office for twenty-three years. Prior to this she worked for the Washington County Board of Education at the Mackville Elementary School for ten years.
Barbara was the first female to be elected to public office in Washington County and was elected Woman of Achievement in 1995. After retirement she became active in the Mackville Community Development and Mackville Boosters. Barbara loved nature, gardening and doing for others.
On Sept. 7, 1957, she was united in marriage to, Sam D. Stumph, they were together for sixty-two and a half years before his passing on March 21, 2020.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam Murphy and her husband, Johnny; two granddaughters, Brooke Coulter and Courtney Murphy; three great grandchildren, Cate and Alex Coulter and Lainey Murphy all of Springfield; a sister, Zella Best of Mercer County; two nieces, Bonnie and Mary Anne Best; a nephew, Ronnie Best and a special caregiver, Lisa Dean.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Damian Phillips, pastor of the Mackville Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Best, Condit Arnold, Leon Burns, Donnie Stumph, Brian Coulter, Tim Stumph, Joey Stumph and Anthony Moore.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, Mackville Baptist Church or Mackville Community Development.
