John Simpson Obituary

John Louis "Johnnie" Simpson, 92, of Lincoln Park Road, Springfield, passed away at 4:03 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at his home.

A native of Washington County, he was born on Oct. 29, 1923, to the late Willie and Nettie Mae Wilburn Simpson.

He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Simpson was a retired farmer.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Doretha Osbourne Simpson on Sept. 9, 2015, a brother, Rubel Simpson and three sisters, Gladys May, Rosa Mae Hendren and Ruth Simpson.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Wallace (James) of Greensburg and Nancey Land (Chip) of Columbia, South Carolina; two sons, Rev. David Simpson (Kay) of Henderson and Rev. John Simpson (Jan) of Springfield; five grandchildren, Teresa Underwood (Brian), David Lynn Simpson (Sherri), Allen Wallace, Travis Simpson (Jessie) and Jordan Simpson; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Wallace, Allison and Katie Simpson, Shyann Simpson and a step- great-grandson, Si Poe.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Simpson, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. David Simpson and Rev. Bobby Chesser.

Burial will be on Cemetery Hill.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Sunday School class of Temple Baptist Church.

Casket bearers will be Jordan Simpson, Brian Underwood, David Lynn Simpson, Allen Wallace, Travis Simpson, Tim Medley and Kevin Medley.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Gideon's International.
