John Spalding Obituary

Br. John Beaven Spalding, died peacefully on October 15, in Pascoag, Rhode Island. He was 82. John was born and raised in Springfield. His parents were Dr. Leonard M. Spalding, Sr. and Elsie Spalding. John is survived by his brother Leonard (Susan) of Springfield and a sister-in-law Phyllis Spalding of Atlanta, seven nieces and nephews, and 23 great nieces and nephews. His oldest brother Benedict predeceased him.

Br. John recently celebrated his 60th Anniversary as a Brother of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

He was a life-long educator, teaching in several high schools in New Jersey, New York, and Louisiana. He spent the last six years enjoying retirement at the Brothers' Retirement Home in Pascoag, R. I.

John loved Kentucky as well as his extended family. Although he lived in different states, he was always interested in knowing about his nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Springfield folks he knew growing up there.

A Mass of Christian Buriel was held at the Brothers Retirement Home in Pascoag, R.I. and he will be interred in New Jersey with his fellow deceased religious brothers.

The Dacey Family (Lisa, Tim and Sean)

November 21, 2023

Brother John was a dear friend to my entire family. I remember the times he was downstairs in my house with my husband and other fellow Saint Joe´s alumni. Talking about good times and good memories. I also worked with him as the Saint Joe´s mothers club president in which he was the advisor. We all celebrated with him for his 70th birthday at Dan´s on Main restaurant. Rest in peace, my dear friend
