Stewart Inman, 78, of Tallahassee, Florida, and Thomasville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday July 7, 2025. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee on Saturday July 19, 2025, at 10 a.m. with Rod Bunton officiating. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee.
Stewart was born in the small community of Texas, Kentucky, on November 16, 1946, to the late Marshall M. Inman and Callie Adkins Inman. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1964 and then attended Bryant and Stratten Business College. He married Nancy VanDevender on July 10, 1965. He proudly served our nation from 1966 to 1968 in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Stewart started his business career at Belknap Hardware Company in Louisville, Kentucky, as an outside salesman. In 1969 he and Nancy moved to Tallahassee to accept a sales territory which covered the Florida Big Bend and South Georgia. From 1974 to 1975 he was hired as the Operations Manager for Peninsula Supply Company where he was able to turn around and revitalize the failing branch. In 1976 Stewart was ready to create his own company and founded American Pump and Supply. This small operation grew into a trusted local supplier of water well, industrial pipe, irrigation and drainage equipment. In 1997, he and his son Mark started a division focused on distributing valve repair parts regionally. That division has evolved into a national company known as American Backflow Products.
Outside of work, Stewart enjoyed horses and tending to his horse farm in Cairo, Georgia. He was a collector of fine Kentucky bourbon. He loved Florida State Football and was a Seminole Booster and season ticket holder since 1969. Stewart was a proud member of the Moose Lodge, The Thomasville History Center, Landmarks of Thomasville, and The Grady County Historical Society.
Stewart is a believer in Jesus Christ and lived out his faith at work and in the care of his family and friends.
