Mary Moore Obituary

Mary Elizabeth "Mary Lib" (Carr) Moore Farmville - Mary Elizabeth "Mary Lib" Moore, born on April 22, 1928, passed away peacefully at home in Farmville, North Carolina on Monday, March 24, 2025. Her kind, loving spirit and warm generosity will be deeply missed by her large community of family and friends.

Mary Lib is predeceased by her parents, Fred Lorenzo Carr and Lottie Virginia Moore Carr, and husband, William Larkin Moore. She is survived by her cousins, Pat Sumrell of Winterville, NC, and Ed and Jarmilla Moore of Leicester, NC. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Jean Cuthrell, who lovingly served as her caregiver in her later years.

Mary Lib was an alumnus of Farmville Central High School and Louisburg College, where she was a proud member of Alpha Phi Epsilon. After graduating, she returned to Farmville, where she became active in the Farmville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Junior Woman's Club, which founded The Little Red School of Farmville. She married her husband, Bill, on Valentines Day in 1960.

Mary Lib was a dedicated professional who touched many lives throughout her career, building a strong sense of community wherever she went. She began her journey in the insurance business, where she met her lifelong friend, Peggy Vandiford, a bond that would last a lifetime. Mary Lib later transitioned to working in assisted living and nursing homes, offering care and compassion to those in need. She spent her final years of work at Prodigy Transitional Rehab in Tarboro, NC, where she not only excelled in her profession but also developed an extended family of colleagues, including Tonya Green, Brenda Mott, and the entire staff, as well as residents who cherished her warmth and dedication. Mary Lib retired at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of friendship, service, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Mary Lib's legacy continues through her many beloved godchildren: Lynn Faircloth, Kathy Buck (Frankie), and Billy Cuthrell Jr. (Jennifer). She deeply cherished her god-grandchildren: Jeanna Buck-Simpson (Michael), Dodge Buck (Morgan Cherry), Sarah Faircloth (Nick Quinn), Austin Faircloth, and Emma Cuthrell.

Throughout her life, Mary Lib built a close-knit "chosen family" who also survive her, including Benita Hollowell and longtime neighbors, Tommy and Nancy Joyner, among many others who were touched by her presence in their lives.

Mary Lib loved many pets during her lifetime. Her Pomeranian, Tiger, was the apple of her eye. Later, many dogs and cats would become part of the extended Moore family including Pico and Mimi treasured pets of Mia Haynes, coworker and friend. She dearly loved her most recent dog, Holly, who was rescued in 2011.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 4, at 3:30 pm in the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour before the Celebration of Life, where family and friends can gather to honor and remember this remarkable woman.
