Alan Campbell Obituary

What a remarkable and full life! A professional golfer, lifelong philatelist, business owner, and a Merrill Lynch Executive Manager of numerous offices including Houston, Palm Springs, Mission Viejo, and San Diego. His interests were numerous, and his enthusiasm contagious. He will be missed very much by his family and friends in the San Diego area and beyond!
He grew up in Riverside and mostly Chula Vista, the son of June and Bob Campbell. Graduated from Hilltop High School (where he served as the very first ASB President) and then earned his bachelor's degree from San Diego State University.
Alan was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife of 36 years, Elayne, his brother Don Campbell and his nephew Donnie Campbell. He leaves behind his cherished family including his son Rob Campbell (Jean) of Cave Creek, AZ, and his son Ryan Campbell (Jessica) of Orange, CA. Lights of his life were his grandchildren Alec, Alyssa, Breanna, and Nathan, and recently two great-grands…Everly and Bodie! In addition, he leaves his sister Nancy Peart (Douglas) of Poway, CA, his sister-in law, Sylvia Campbell of Lakeside CA, and many nieces and nephews. Alan adored them all and was a cherished mentor and friend.
Golf was his passion from a very early age, and he had many successes in Junior Golf and also, with the SDSU golf team. Many adventures and wonderful, lifelong friends revolved around that sport! After his time as an Army officer, he opened the first video golf store in El Cajon and then was the head Golf Professional at Carlton Oaks Country Club for several years. He then began a long career in finance and investments with Merrill Lynch.
After retirement, he bravely opened another business in Escondido… The Stamp Store. That brought him so much joy to meet other stamp collectors and gather in the store to swap stories. Ours of pleasure for all who sought him out.
He truly leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, curiosity of the world, and leadership skills in every area. He was a tremendous caretaker and friend to anyone who needed him.
He encouraged the young people in his life to dream big and not be afraid of taking a risk now and then. Do things that are fun.
And always serve Chocolate Chip Cookies!
Our love is forever, Alan. Always in our hearts.

Alan was an outstanding person to know! " I first met him in the eighth grade and we remained friends throughout our school years. Together with Jim Rheim we ran for school office that first year at Hilltop High School. We formed a 'party' and called ourselves "ALJISU". We won! It was a busy, hectic, and fun senior year for us all. Alan contributed much, to his school and to his community. What a nice person! My condolences to his family.

We were close friends our senior year at Hilltop High school in Chula Vista, CA. Had lots of shared experiences during that special year in our lives. After graduation in 1860, I went off to college in another state and Alan remained in San Diego for school. We were able to stay in touch fur a while but as he said 60 years later when we reconnected at a school reunion, youth and distance kept us from remaining touch. He told me how much he loved his boys as he called them, and that he shared everything with them. I send my sincerest condolences to them and the rest of his family in the loss of his presence in their lives. As he said to me after losing his beloved wife, Elayne; it's hard but we do the best we can. Amen and RIP
