Jack Stonebraker Obituary

Jack LeRoy Stonebraker

Muncie - Jack LeRoy Stonebraker, 83, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 2, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He was surrounded by family as he went to be with his Savior.

Jack's memory and legacy will live on forever in love and admiration by his wife of 61 years, Sally; his son, Jack (Debbie), Streamwood, IL; his daughter, Sheri Meadows, Grand Rapids, MI; his 5 grandkids; Courtney (Joe) Piekarz, Ashley Stonebraker, Cody Stonebraker, Brandi Meadows, and Kimberly (Kenny) White; and his 9 great grandchildren; Ben (9), Addison (9), Riley (7), Blake (6), Nolan (4), Kenna (3), Dominic (2), Aubrionna (1), and Micah (1). Jack is proceeded in death by his parents; Jack Lee and Viva, his daughter Lori, his son Mark, his son Doug, and his daughter in law, Kathy. He is succeeded by his brother Phillip (Pat), their sons Chris and Kevin and many members of his extended family who will miss him terribly.

Jack was born in Muncie, IN on December 12, 1934. He graduated from Muncie Burris High School, attended Ball State College, and completed Indiana University Criminal Investigative Programs I and II at Notre Dame and National Forensic Techniques Seminars. He was a graduate of Smith and Wesson IDENT-I-Kit Program and International Homicide School in Columbus, OH, where he was an instructor for two years.

Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army a few months after his marriage to Sally, and she joined him in Germany after she finished college. Jack graduated with honors from NCO School, was a heavy artillery expert, and attained E5 rank during his tour.

After serving for 26 years on the Muncie Police Department, he retired in 1982 as Captain of Detectives. He then served as Chief Criminal Investigator for Delaware County Prosecutors for 9 years and was elected to serve Delaware County for two terms as Coroner, one term as Auditor and one as Commissioner. While he held numerous elected positions and amassed countless awards and recognition, he was most active with the F.O.P. where he held offices at the Local, State and National Levels. One project that made him most proud was achieved during his six years as National Legislation Chairman of the F.O.P where he facilitated the passing of the Police Benevolent Fund which provides support to the families of fallen officers.

Jack clearly spent his life in serving others and making a difference in the communities he served, he also cherished playing the role of Santa for families and clubs for over 20 years, donating all funds that were raised to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

He loved his fishing trips to Canada, volunteering with his friends at Lakey's Sawmill, and model railroading. He had a passion for sports and loved watching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids participate in a number of sports over the years. He officiated IHSAA and NCAA football and baseball for over 20 years and he and his wife watched sports together routinely...proudly watching that 2016 World Series win by the Cubs as lifelong fans.

Jack's presence filled a room the moment he entered, and while he had a tough exterior, nothing softened him like the love he had for his family. He took great pride in his work and years of serving his country and community, and although his life was filled with many titles and roles, the ones he wore most proudly were Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He will be missed on indescribable levels and leaves an amazing legacy; passing on an immeasurable sense of pride and commitment to all of those who were lucky enough to be a part of his admirable life.

To Sally and family. I will not be able to attend the funeral, but wanted to offer my condolences and prayers. My fondest memories of spending time with Jack were refereeing a football game or umpiring a baseball game. HE was a good mentor. Mike Richardson

Thoughts and prayers to Sally and the rest of his family

November 7, 2018

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Jack's family, sorry for your loss. Jeremiah 29:11, 12 assures us that God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope, and that if we come and pray to Him, He will listen to us. May that bring you comfort at this difficult time.
