Joseph Wilson Obituary

Joseph E. Wilson, 75

Muncie - Joseph E. Wilson, 75, passed away on July 4, 2017. He lived life to its fullest and was loved deeply by his family and friends. Joe left this world a better place because of his kind and generous spirit. He loved his family, the outdoors and enjoyed many years of retirement in Florida, fishing, golfing, and traveling with family and friends. He was always the life of the party and loved to entertain-usually over a good meal and a glass of wine.

Joe retired in 2005 after 43 years of service to Muncie Power Products. He joined the Muncie Power Products Team in 1962 working in the warehouse, and was elected President in 1982 and CEO in 1997. Joe also served as Chairman of the Board for Muncie Power Products. Under Joe's leadership, Muncie Power Products went through several successful transitions and was quick to credit his successes to the guidance and leadership of Hamer Shafer.

Joe also devoted his time to become a valuable member of his community. He was a member of the Board of Directors for First Merchants Bank, Director of Cardinal Health Systems and Cardinal Health Partners, as well as Director of the Boy Scouts of America Crossroads Council and the American Heart Association of East Central Indiana, and a Trustee of the Muncie YWCA. His past boards and offices include Chairman/Director and Campaign Chairman for the United Way of Delaware County, Director/Chairman Delaware Advancement Corporation, Trustee and Treasurer for the National Truck Equipment Association and Treasurer/Directory for the Muncie Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. Joe also served as a past Director for the Community Foundation along with serving as President/Director for the Community Arts and Building Foundation.Joe's current memberships include First Presbyterian Church, Ball State University Fellows Club, Cardinal Varsity Club, Muncie Rotary Club and Delaware Country Club "Geezer" Golf group.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his loving wife, Lani (Bibler) Wilson; stepchildren Ryan and Megan Greene; Daughter Julie Austin (Adam), son Jeff Wilson, grandchildren Brent and Brittany Austin; sister Jackie (Brewington) Nerland; brother in-law, John Yount (Debby), and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earl Joseph Wilson and Virginia Reeves, his first wife, Janet Wilson and his sister, Wanda Wilson.

Joe will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. He will live on in the hearts of all of us.

My deepest condolences to Lani: I regret the sorrow and sadness that you are undergoing. Joe was a great guy and there is no replacement for that relationship. Taking solace in your family relationships does help ease the pain, as you know. My best wishes to you as you move forward. Sincerely,
Barbara Bookout Estes
