Mauzy McManus Obituary

Mauzy R. McManus, 92

YORKTOWN - Mauzy R. McManus, 92, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at The Waters of Yorktown, Indiana.

He was born January 30, 1923 in Rushville, Indiana to Harry and Grace Mauzy McManus. He was a 1941 graduate of Rushville High School where he participated in numerous school activities and won awards for playing the bass clarinet. He played football in high school and college. He attended Hanover College and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

Mauzy served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He achieved the rank of Surgical Technical Sargent, 322nd Medical Battalion in the 97th Infantry. He returned to farming when he came home. Mauzy raised hogs, corn, wheat and soybeans for over thirty-six years before retiring in 1982. Mauzy married Jane Singer of Indianapolis on June 16, 1946. They lived in Rushville until 2002 when health issues required them to leave their beloved house at 7th and Harrison. Jane preceded Mauzy in death in 2011. They were married sixty-five years. Mauzy will be remembered by many as THE Wal-Mart greeter at the Rushville Wal-Mart for fifteen years. Although he enjoyed his work there, he would want to be remembered for his service to the greater Rushville and Rush County community. He served on the the Rushville City Council, Rush County Health Board, Sheriff's Merit Board, the Red Cross Board, and the Girls Scouts Regional Financial Board. Mauzy was made Elder Emeritus of Main Street Christian Church in 1993. He had served the church as Usher, Deacon, and Elder, Sunday school teacher and on the church board. He was board chairman when the church built an education addition to the original church building. It was said of him that no one could usher like he did and he should teach classes on how it is done. He was a 32 degree Mason and a part of the Scottish Rite. He was awarded the RHS/RCHS Alumni Service Award in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; sister and wife.

He is survived by his sons, Gregg McManus (Jane) of Evansville, Indiana, Rev. Gary McManus (Deborah), Daleville, Indiana; daughters, Cynthia Hall (Bill) of St. Cloud, Florida and Melissa Daubenspeck (Ron) of Raleigh, North Carolina. Mauzy and Jane had six grandchildren. Mauzy shared also the birth announcement of his great-grandson, Milo Scircle, June 3rd.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2014 at Main Street Christian Church, Rushville. Pastor Sam Davenport will preside.

Friends are welcome to visit from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Moster Motuary, Rushville. Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street Christian Church.
